And Ibn al-Bri quoted Abu Dawud al-Iyadi: And indeed, it had green battalions, ... and paved areas built with bricks.
ويقال: دار مبلطة بآجر أو حجارة.
And it is said: a house paved with bricks or stones.
ويقال: بلطت الدار، فهي مبلوطة إذا فرشتها بآجر أو حجارة.
And it is said: I paved the house, and it is paved if you covered it with bricks or stones.
وكل أرض فرشت بالحجارة والآجر بلاط.
And every land paved with stones and bricks is called balat.
وبلطها يبلطها بلطا وبلطها: سواها، وبلط الحائط وبلطه كذلك.
And balataha yubaltuha baltan and baltaha: to level it, and balata al-ha'it wa baltahu likewise.
وبلاط الأرض: وجهها، وقيل: منتهى الصلب من غير جمع.
And balat al-ard: its surface, and it is said: the end of the solid ground without aggregation.
يقال: لزم فلان بلاط الأرض؛ وقول الراجز: فبات، وهو ثابت الرباط، ... بمنحنى الهائل والبلاط
It is said: So-and-so adhered to the surface of the earth; and the saying of the rajaz: So he spent the night, and he was firm in his tether, ... in the curve of the imposing sand and the level ground.
والبلاط: المستوي.
And al-balat: the level.
والبلط: تطيين الطانة، وهي السطح إذا كان لها سميط، وهو الحائط الصغير.
And al-balt: plastering the roof, which is the surface if it has a small wall, which is the small wall.
أبو حنيفة الدينوري: البلاط وجه الأرض؛ ومنه قيل: بالطني فلان إذا تركك أو فر منك فذهب في الأرض
Abu Hanifa al-Dinawari: Al-balat is the face of the earth; and from it is said: Balani fulan if he left you or fled from you and went into the land.
ومننه قولهم: جالدوا وبالطوا أي إذا لقيتم عدوكم فالزموا الأرض
And from it is their saying: Fight and stick to the ground, meaning if you meet your enemy, then stick to the earth.
وقال ذو الرمة يذكر رفيقه في سفر: يئن إلى مس البلاط، كأنما ... براه الحشايا في ذوات الزخارف
And Dhu al-Rummah said, mentioning his travel companion: He moans towards the touch of the level ground, as if ... the beds have worn him out in the adorned places.
وأبلط المطر الأرض: أصاب بلاطها، وهو أن لا ترى على متنها ترابا ولا غبارا
And the rain 'ablata' the land: it hit its surface, which is when you do not see dust or dirt on its back.
قال رؤبة: يأوي إلى بلاط جوف مبلط
Ru'bah said: He seeks refuge in the level ground of a paved hollow.
والبلاليط: الأرضون المستوية من ذلك، قال السيرافي: ولا يعرف لها واحد.
And al-Balalit: the level lands from that, and Al-Sirafi said: it is not known to have a singular form.
وأبلط الرجل وأبلط: لزق بالأرض.
And ablata al-rajul and ablata: he stuck to the ground.
وأبلط، فهو مبلط، على ما لم يسم فاعله: افتقر وذهب ماله.
And ablata, so he is mablut, according to the passive voice: he became impoverished and his wealth was gone.
وأبلط، فهو مبلط إذا قل ماله.
And ablata, so he is mablut if his wealth became scarce.
قال أبو الهيثم: أبلط إذا أفلس فلزق بالبلاط؛ قال إمرؤ القيس: نزلت على عمرو بن درماء بلطة، ... فيا كرم ما جار ويا كرم ما محل
Abu Al-Haytham said: Ablata if he went bankrupt and stuck to the ground; Imru' al-Qays said: I stayed with Amr bin Darma' for a balta, ... O generous one, how you were just, and O generous one, how you were hospitable.
فقال بعضهم: يريد به حللت على عمرو بن درماء بلطة أي برهة ودهرا
So some of them said: He means by it 'I stayed with Amr bin Darma' for a balta', meaning for a while and a long time.
وقال آخرون، بلطة أراد داره أنها مبلطة مفروشة بالحجارة ويقال لها البلاط
And others said, Balta means his house, that it is paved, furnished with stones, and called al-balat.
وقال بعضهم: بلطة أي مفلسا
And some of them said: Balta, meaning bankrupt.
وقال بعضهم: بلطة قرية من جبلي طيء كثيرة التين والعنب
And some of them said: Balta is a village from the mountains of Tayy, rich in figs and grapes.
وقال بعضهم: هي هضبة بعينها، وقال أبو عمرو: بلطة فجأة.
And some of them said: It is a specific plateau, and Abu Amr said: Balta means suddenness.
التهذيب: وبلطة اسم دار؛ قال إمرؤ القيس: وكنت إذا ما خفت يوما ظلامة، ... فإن لها شعبا ببلطة زيمرا
Al-Tahdhib: And Balta is the name of a house; Imru' al-Qays said: And if I feared injustice one day, ... then it has a path by Balta Zimra.
وفي حديث جابر: عقلت الجمل في ناحية البلاط ؛ قال: البلاط ضرب من الحجارة تفرش به الأرض ثم سمي المكان بلاطا اتساعا، وهو موضع معروف بالمدينة تكرر ذكره في الحديث.
And in the hadith of Jabir: I tethered the camel in the vicinity of Al-Balat; he said: Al-Balat is a type of stone with which the ground is paved, then the place was named Balat by extension, and it is a known place in Medina that is repeatedly mentioned in the hadith.
وأبلطهم اللص إبلاطا: لم يدع لهم شيئا؛ عن اللحياني.
And the thief 'ablatahum' them, meaning he left them with nothing; from Al-Lihyani.
وبالط في أموره: بالغ.
And balata fi umurih: he exaggerated in his affairs.
وبالط السابح: اجتهد.
And balata al-sabih: he strove hard.
والبلط: المجان والمتحزمون من الصوفية.
And al-balt: the ascetics and the girded ones among the Sufis.
الفراء: أبلطني فلان إبلاطا وأخجاني «3» إخجاء إذا ألح عليك في السؤال حتى يبرمك ويملك.
Al-Farra': So-and-so 'ablata-ni' me, meaning he insisted on asking you until he annoyed you and gained control.
والمبالطة: المجاهدة، يقال: نزل فبالطه أي جاهده.
And al-mubalata: striving, it is said: he descended and 'balatahu', meaning he struggled with him.
وفلان مبالط لك أي مجتهد في صلاح شأنك؛ وأنشد:
And so-and-so is 'mubalit' for you, meaning striving diligently for your welfare; and he recited:
فهو لهن حابل وفارط، ... إن وردت، ومادر ولائط لحوضها، وماتح مبالط
He is for them a hunter and a passerby, ... if they come to water, and a supplier and a paviour for their pool, and a striving drawer of water.
ويقال: تبالطوا بالسيوف إذا تجالدوا بها على أرجلهم، ولا يقال تبالطوا إذا كانوا ركبانا.
And it is said: 'tabalatu' with swords if they fought each other with them on foot, and it is not said 'tabalatu' if they were riders.
والتبالط والمبالطة: المجالدة بالسيوف.
And al-tabalut and al-mubalata: fighting with swords.
وبالطني فلان: فر مني.
And so-and-so 'balat-ni': he fled from me.
والبلط: الفارون من العسكر.
And al-balt: those who flee from the army.
وبلط الرجل تبليطا إذا أعيا في المشي مثل بلح.
And balata al-rajul tablitan if he became exhausted in walking, like balaha.
والتبليط عراقية، وهو أن يضرب فرع أذن الإنسان بطرف سبابته.
And al-tablit is Iraqi, which is to strike the lobe of a person's ear with the tip of the index finger.
وبلط أذنه تبليطا: ضربها بطرف سبابته ضربا يوجعه.
And balata udh-nahu tablitan: he struck it with the tip of his index finger, a strike that pains it.
والبلط والبلط: المخراط، وهو الحديدة التي يخرط بها الخراط، عربية؛ قال:
And al-balt and al-balt: the nasal speculum, which is the iron rod with which the speculum maker works, Arabic; he said:
والبلط يبري حبر الفرفار
And the nasal speculum sharpens the ink of the scribe.
والبلوط: ثمر شجر يؤكل ويدبغ بقشره.
And al-balut: the fruit of a tree that is eaten and tanned with its peel.
والبلاط: اسم موضع؛ قال:
