And al-madhadh: the pain of a calamity, and you have felt pain from it, O man, with a kasra, you feel pain, with pain and stinging and great pain.
ومض الكحل العين يمضها ويمضها وأمضها. آلمها وأحرقها.
And kohl burned the eye, it burned it and stung it. It pained it and burned it.
وكحل مض: يمض العين، ومضيضه حرقته؛
And mad kohl: it burns the eye, and its mad quality is its burning;
وكحله كحلا مضا إذا كان يحرق، وكحله بملمول مض أي حار.

ما علمك أهلك إلا مض ومض،

ما علمك أهلك من الكلام إلا مضا وميضا وبضا وبيضا.
Your family knows nothing of speech except 'madh', 'maydh', 'badh', and 'baydh'.

خباث كل عيدانك قد مضضنا فوجدنا عاقبته مرا ؛
O wicked one, we have tested all your deeds and found their consequence to be bitter;
يعني الدنيا، يعني جربناك واختبرناك فوجدناك مرة العاقبة.
Meaning the world, meaning we tested you and tried you and found you bitter in consequence.
والمضماض: الرجل الخفيف السريع؛
And al-madhmad: the light, fast man;
يترك كل هوجل نغاض فردا، وكل معض مضماض
Leaving every tall, moving one alone, and every agile, quick one
مضض إذا شرب المضاض، وهو الماء الذي لا يطاق ملوحة،
Madhadh if he drank al-madhadh, which is water whose saltiness cannot be endured,
وبه سمي الرجل مضاضا، وضده من المياه القطيع، وهو الصافي الزلال.
And by it, the man was named Madhadh, and its opposite among waters is al-qati', which is clear and pure.
