فسرت حتى نزلت جزيرة العرب فأقمت بها حتى اشتد غرضي أي ضجري وملالي.
I traveled until I reached the Arabian Peninsula and stayed there until my boredom and weariness intensified.
والغرض أيضا: شدة النزاع نحو الشيء والشوق إليه.
And 'gharaḍ' also means: intense contention towards something and longing for it.
غرض إلى لقائه يغرض غرضا، فهو غرض: اشتاق؛
He longed for his meeting, yearning with a longing, so he is one who longs: he yearned.
إني غرضت إلى تناصف وجهها، ... غرض المحب إلى الحبيب الغائب أي محاسن وجهها التي ينصف بعضها بعضا في الحسن؛
Indeed, I longed for the symmetry of her face... the longing of a lover for a absent beloved, meaning the beauties of her face which complement each other in loveliness.
فمن يك لم يغرض فإني وناقتي، ... بحجر، إلى أهل الحمى غرضان تحن فتبدي ما بها من صبابة، ...
And whoever has not longed, then indeed I and my she-camel... near Hijr, towards the people of the sanctuary, two yearning ones, she expresses what is in her of passionate love...
وترميك بالطرف كما يرمي الغرض أي المشتاق.
And she strikes you with her glance as the one who longs strikes, meaning the yearning one.
وغرضنا البهم نغرضه غرضا: فصلناه عن أمهاته.
And we separated the young lambs from their mothers, we weaned them with a weaning: we separated them from their mothers.
وغرض الشيء يغرضه غرضا: كسره كسرا لم يبن.
And 'gharaḍa' a thing means: to break it with a break that does not separate.
وانغرض الغصن: تثنى وانكسر انكسارا غير بائن.
And the branch bent: it became flexible and broke with a break that was not complete.
والغريض: الطري من اللحم والماء واللبن والتمر.
And 'gharīḍ' is: the fresh of meat, water, milk, and dates.
فقاءت لحما غريضا أي طريا؛
She squeezed out fresh meat, meaning tender.
فيؤتى بالخبز لينا وباللحم غريضا.
Bread is brought soft and meat is brought fresh.
يظل مغبا عنده من فرائس ... رفات عظام، أو غريض مشرشر
He stays near it from prey... remnants of bones, or fresh, cut meat.
ومننه قيل لماء المطر مغروض وغريض؛
And from this, fresh rainwater is called 'maghrūḍ' and 'gharīḍ'.
بغريض سارية أدرته الصبا، ... من ماء أسجر طيب المستنقع
With the fresh water of a night shower that the east wind stirred, ... from the water of a stagnant pool, pleasant.
مشعشعة بمغروض زلال
Sparkling with pure, fresh rainwater.
وغرضناه نغرضه غرضا وغرضناه: جنيناه طريا أو أخذناه كذلك.
And we picked it, we picked it with a picking: we picked it fresh or took it likewise.
وأغرضت للقوم غريضا: عجنت لهم عجينا ابتكرته ولم أطعمهم بائتا.
And I prepared fresh dough for the people: I kneaded for them dough that I made anew and did not feed them stale.
وهو أن تمخضه، فإذا ثمر وصار ثميرة قبل أن يجتمع زبده صبته فسقته للقوم، فهو سقاء مغروض وغريض.
And that is to churn it, and when it thickens and becomes like 'thameerah' before its butter gathers, she pours it and gives it to the people to drink, so it is churned and fresh milk-skin.
ويقال أيضا: غرضنا السخل نغرضه إذا فطمناه قبل إناه.
And it is also said: we weaned the kid, we weaned it when we weaned it before its time.
والغريضة: ضرب من السويق، يصرم من الزرع ما يراد حتى يستفرك ثم يشهى، وتشهيته أن يسخن على المقلى حتى ييبس، وإن شاء جعل معه على المقلى حبقا فهو أطيب لطعمه وهو أطيب سويق.
And 'al-gharīḍah': a type of sūwīq, from which the desired part of the crop is harvested until it is rubbed, then it is desired, and its desirability comes from heating it on a pan until it dries, and if one wishes, they add basil to it on the pan, which makes it tastier and it is the best sūwīq.
والغرض: شعبة في الوادي أكبر من الهجيج؛
And 'al-gharaḍ': a branch in a valley larger than a small gully.
أصابنا مطر أسال زهاد الغرضان [الغرضان]، وزهادها صغارها.
Rain fell on us and flowed through the small gullies of the ravines, and their 'zuhād' are their small ones.
والغرضان من الفرس: ما انحدر من قصبة الأنف من جانبيها وفيها عرق البهر.
And the 'gharaḍān' of a horse: what descends from the bridge of the nose on its sides, and in it is the vein of the 'bahr'.
فيضربه بالسيف فيقطعه جزلتين رمية الغرض ؛
And he strikes him with the sword and cuts him into two pieces the distance of a throw to the target.
الغرض هاهنا: الهدف، أراد أنه يكون بعد ما بين القطعتين بقدر رمية السهم إلى الهدف، وقيل: معناه وصف الضربة أي تصيبه إصابة رمية الغرض.
The target here: the goal. He meant that the distance between the two pieces would be the length of an arrow's throw to the target, and it was said: its meaning describes the strike, meaning it hits with the accuracy of a throw to the target.
تختلف بين هذين الغرضين وأنت شيخ كبير.
You move between these two targets while you are an old man.
وغرضه كذا أي حاجته وبغيته.
And his 'gharaḍ' is such and such, meaning his need and his desire.
وفهمت غرضك أي قصدك.
And I understood your 'gharaḍ', meaning your intention.
واغترض الشيء: جعله غرضه.
And he made the thing his 'gharaḍ': he made it his objective.
وغرض أنف الرجل: شرب فنال أنفه الماء من قبل شفته.
And the nose of the man 'gharaḍa': he drank and his nose reached the water before his lip.
والغريض: الطلع، والإغريض: الطلع والبرد، ويقال: كل أبيض طري،
And 'al-gharīḍ': the spathe of a date palm. And 'al-ighrīḍ': the spathe and the hail, and it is said: everything white and fresh.
الإغريض ما في جوف الطلعة ثم شبه به البرد لا أن الإغريض أصل في البرد.
'Al-ighrīḍ' is what is inside the spathe, then hail is likened to it, not that 'al-ighrīḍ' is the origin of hail.
وأبيض كالإغريض لم يتثلم
And white like 'al-ighrīḍ', not yet damaged.
يميح بعود الضرو إغريض بغشة، ... جلا ظلمه ما دون أن يتهمما
He waters with the 'ḍarw' stick, 'ighrīḍ' of a dark cloud, ... its darkness cleared what was below before it was suspected.
قال الكسائي الإغريض كل أبيض مثل اللبن وما ينشق عنه الطلع.
Al-Kisā'ī said: 'Al-ighrīḍ' is everything white like milk and what splits from the date palm spathe.
والغريض أيضا كل غناء محدث طري، ومنه سمي المغني الغريض لأنه أتى بغناء محدث.
And 'al-gharīḍ' is also any new, fresh song, and from this, the singer is called 'al-Gharīḍ' because he brought new singing.
