وعض الثقاف بأنابيب الرمح عضا وعض عليها: لزمها
And he bit the ferrule onto the shafts of the spear with a bite, and he clung to it: he adhered to it.
وأعض الرمح الثقاف: ألزمه إياه
And the spear made the ferrule adhere: it made it stick to it.
وأعض الحجام المحجمة قفاه: ألزمها إياه
And the cupper made the cup adhere to his nape: he made it stick to him.
وفلان عض فلان وعضيضه أي قرنه
And so-and-so is the 'aḍḍ' of so-and-so and his 'aḍīḍ', meaning his equal.
ورجل عض: مصلح لمعيشته وماله ولازم له حسن القيام عليه
And a man who is 'aḍḍ' is one who is diligent in managing his livelihood and property, and is steadfast in overseeing it well.
وعضضت بمالي عضوضا وعضاضة: لزمته
And I clung to my property with tenacity and adherence: I adhered to it.
