تقول: رفضني فرفضته، رفضت الشيء أرفضه وأرفضه رفضا ورفضا: تركته وفرقته.

And in the hadith of Murrah ibn Sharahil: he was reproached for missing Friday prayer, so he mentioned that he had a wound that might ooze in his garment, meaning its pus flowed and scattered within it.
وارفض الوجع: زال.
And the pain ceased: it disappeared.
والرفاض: الطرق المتفرقة أخاديدها؛ قال رؤبة: بالعيس فوق الشرك الرفاض هي أخاديد الجادة المتفرقة.

وترفض الشيء إذا تكسر.

ورفضت الشيء أرفضه وأرفضه رفضا، فهو مرفوض ورفيض: كسرته.

والروافض: قوم من الشيعة، سموا بذلك لأنهم تركوا زيد بن علي؛ قال الأصمعي: كانوا بايعوه ثم قالوا له: ابرأ من الشيخين نقاتل معك، فأبى وقال: كانا وزيري جدي فلا أبرأ منهما، فرفضوه وارفضوا عنه فسموا رافضة، وقالوا الروافض ولم يقولوا الرفاض لأنهم عنوا الجماعات.
And the Rawafid: a people from the Shiites, so named because they abandoned Zayd ibn Ali; Al-Asma'i said: They had pledged allegiance to him, then they said to him: Disown the two Sheikhs, and we will fight with you. He refused and said: They were the ministers of my grandfather, so I will not disown them. So they rejected him and abandoned him, so they were named Rawafid, and they said Rawafid and not Rafāḍ because they meant groups.
والرفض: أن يطرد الرجل غنمه وإبله إلى حيث يهوى، فإذا بلغت لها عنها وتركها.
And rafḍ: is for a man to drive his sheep and camels wherever he wishes, and when they reach their destination, he leaves them.
ورفضتها أرفضها وأرفضها رفضا: تركتها تبدد في مراعيها ترعى حيث شاءت ولا يثنيها عن وجه تريده، وهي إبل رافضة وإبل رفض وأرفاض.

And it is said: a shepherd of grasping and abandoning for one who grasps, drives, and gathers them, and when they reach the place they love and desire, he abandons them and leaves them to graze as they wish, so they are dispersed camels.
الأزهري: سمعت أعرابيا يقول: القوم رفض في بيوتهم أي تفرقوا في بيوتهم، والناس أرفاض في السفر أي متفرقون، وهي إبل رافضة ورفض أيضا؛
Al-Azhari said: I heard a Bedouin say: The people are scattered in their homes, meaning they are dispersed in their homes, and people are scattered in travel, meaning dispersed, and they are dispersed camels and also scattered;
وقال ملحة بن واصل، وقيل: هو لملحة الجرمي، يصف سحابا. يباري الرياح الحضرميات مزنه ... بمنهمر الأرواق ذي قزع رفض
And Malihah ibn Wasil said, and it is attributed to Malihah Al-Jarmi, describing clouds. Its rain competes with the Hadrami winds ... with a pouring rain of scattered clouds.
ونعام رفض أي فرق؛ قال ذو الرمة: بها رفض من كل خرجاء صعلة، ... وأخرج يمشي مثل مشي المخبل
And ostriches scattered, meaning dispersed; Dhu Al-Rummah said: Among them are scattered ones from every slender-necked bird, ... and one walking like the walk of the afflicted.
