قال الفراء: النامصة التي تنتف الشعر من الوجه، ومنه قيل للمنقاش منماص لأنه ينتفه به، والمتنمصة: هي التي تفعل ذلك بنفسها؛

Al-Farra' said: The nāmiṣah is she who plucks hair from the face, and from this the tweezers are called minmāṣ because it plucks with it. And the mutanammisah: she is the one who does that to herself.

وامرأة نمصاء تنتمص أي تأمر نامصة فتنمص شعر وجهها نمصا أي تأخذه عنه بخيط.

And a woman with fine hair (namṣā') who orders a plucker (tantaṣ) meaning she orders a plucker to pluck the hair from her face, plucking it, meaning she removes it from her face with a thread.

And they eat from the grass, tender and lush... it grows back after being eaten, so it is namīṣ, describing a plant that the livestock have grazed and stripped, then it grew back to the extent that it can be taken, meaning to the extent that it can be plucked and cut.
