وأخذ الغنم النفاص.
And the sheep were afflicted with Al-Nifas (a disease).
والنفاص: داء يأخذ الغنم فتنفص بأبوالها أي تدفعها دفعا حتى تموت.

And it was said: the correct reading is with Fa' (ف) and the meaning is to sprinkle it on the male organ, from their saying 'a small sprinkle of blood is a nafṣah', and its plural is 'nufuṣ'.
وأنفص في الضحك وأنزق وزهزق بمعنى واحد: أكثر منه.
And he laughed excessively, and 'anzaga' and 'zahzaqa' have the same meaning: to laugh a lot.
والمنفاص: الكثير الضحك.

قال الفراء: أنفص بالضحك إنفاصا وأنفص بشفتيه كالمترمز، وهو الذي يشير بشفتيه وعينيه.

Ibn Barrī said: Al-Nafīṣ is fresh water; and he recited for Imru' al-Qays: Like the thorns of the Sayal tree, it is sweet and fresh.
