مصصت الشيء، بالكسر، أمصه مصا وامتصصته.
I sucked the thing, with kasra, I suck it, sucking, and I sucked it up.
والتمصص: المص في مهلة، وتمصصته: ترشفته منه.
And at-tamassus: sucking with a delay, and I tamassastuhu: I sipped it from it.
والمصاص والمصاصة: ما تمصصت منه.
And al-miṣāṣ and al-miṣāṣah: what you sipped from it.
مصصت الرمان أمصه ومصصت من ذلك الأمر: مثله
I sucked the pomegranate, I suck it, and I sucked from that matter: its like.
ومن العرب من يقول مصصت الرمان أمص، والفصيح الجيد نصصت، بالكسر، أمص؛ وأمصصته الشيء فمصه.
And among the Arabs, some say I sucked the pomegranate, I suck; and the eloquent and good say I sucked, with kasra, I suck; and I made him suck the thing, so he sucked it.
أنه مص منها أي نال القليل من الدنيا.
That he sucked from it, meaning he obtained a little of the world.
يقال: مصصت، بالكسر، أمص مصا.
It is said: I sucked, with kasra, I suck, sucking.
والمصوص من النساء: التي تمتص رحمها الماء.
And al-maṣūṣ from women: she whose womb sucks water.
والممصوصة: المهزولة من داء يخامرها كأنها مصت.
And al-mamṣūṣah: the emaciated one from a lingering illness, as if sucked.
والمصان: الحجام لأنه يمص؛ قال زياد الأعجم يهجو خالد بن عتاب بن ورقاء: فإن تكن الموسى جرت فوق بظرها، ... فما ختنت إلا ومصان قاعد
And al-miṣān: the cupper, because he sucks; Ziyad al-A'jam said, satirizing Khalid bin 'Atab bin Warqa': If the razor ran over her vulva, ... she was not circumcised except with a miṣān sitting.
ومصان ومصانة: شتم للرجل يعير برضع الغنم من أخلافها بفيه
And miṣān and miṣānah: an insult to a man, taunting him with sucking sheep from their udders with his mouth.
يقال: أمص فلان فلانا إذا شتمه بالمصان.
It is said: So-and-so insulted so-and-so with al-miṣān.
لا تحرم المصة ولا المصتان ولا الرضعة ولا الرضعتان ولا الإملاجة ولا الإملاجتان.
Do not forbid the single suck, nor the two sucks, nor the single feeding, nor the two feedings, nor the single mouthful, nor the two mouthfuls.
المصاص: خالص كل شيء.
Al-miṣāṣ: the pure essence of everything.
شهادة ممتحنا إخلاصها معتقدا مصاصها
A testimony whose sincerity is tested, believing its essence.
ومصاص الشيء ومصاصته ومصامصه: أخلصه؛ قال أبو دواد: بمجوف بلقا وأعلى لونه ورد مصامص
And the essence of a thing, and its essence, and its purest part: its purity; Abu Dawad said: With a hollowed flank, and its upper color was rosy, pure.
وفلان مصاص قومه ومصاصتهم أي أخلصهم نسبا، وكذلك الاثنان والجمع والمؤنث؛ قال الشاعر: أولاك يحمون المصاص المحضا
And so-and-so is the miṣāṣ of his people and their miṣāṣ, meaning the purest of them by lineage, and likewise the dual, plural, and feminine; a poet said: Those protect the pure lineage.
ومصاص الشيء: سره ومنبته.
And the miṣāṣ of a thing: its secret and its origin.
الليث: مصاص القوم أصل منبتهم وأفضل سطتهم.
Al-Layth: The miṣāṣ of a people is their origin of growth and the best of their might.
مصمص الإناء والثوب: غسلهما، ومصمص فاه ومضمضه بمعنى واحد
He rinsed the container and the garment: he washed them, and he rinsed his mouth and gargled, meaning the same.
وقيل: الفرق بينهما أن المصمصة بطرف اللسان وهو دون المضمضة، والمضمضة بالفم كله، وهذا شبيه بالفرق بين القبصة والقبضة.
And it was said: the difference between them is that al-miṣmaṣah is with the tip of the tongue, which is less than gargling, and gargling is with the whole mouth, and this is similar to the difference between al-qabṣah and al-qabḍah.
أمرنا أن نمصمص من اللبن ولا نمضمض ، هو من ذلك.
We were ordered to rinse with milk and not to gargle, it is from that.
ومصمص إناءه: غسله كمضمضه؛ عن يعقوب.
And he rinsed his container: he washed it like gargling; from Ya'qub.
الأصمعي: يقال مصمص إناءه ومضمضه إذا جعل فيه الماء وحركه ليغسله.
Al-Asma'i: It is said, he rinsed his container and gargled it when he put water in it and moved it to wash it.
كنا نتوضأ مما غيرت النار ونمصمص من اللبن ولا نمصمص من التمر.
We used to perform ablution from what fire changed and rinse with milk and not rinse with dates.
القتل في سبيل الله ممصمصة ؛ المعنى أن الشهادة في سبيل الله مطهرة الشهيد من ذنوبه ماحية خطاياه كما يمصمص الإناء الماء إذا رقرق الماء فيه وحرك حتى يطهر، وأصله من الموص، وهو الغسل.
Killing in the path of God is a purification; the meaning is that martyrdom in the path of God purifies the martyr from his sins, erasing his transgressions, just as a container is rinsed with water when water is swirled in it and moved until it is purified, and its origin is from al-mawṣ, which is washing.
والذي عندي في ذكر الشهيد فتلك ممصمصة أي مطهرة غاسلة، وقد تكرر العرب الحرف وأصله معتل، ومنه نخنخ بعيره وأصله من الإناخة، وتعظعظ أصله من الوعظ، وخضخضت الإناء وأصله من الخوض، وإنما أنثها والقتل مذكر لأنه أراد معنى الشهادة أو أراد خصلة ممصمصة، فأقام الصفة مقام الموصوف.
And what I think regarding the mention of the martyr, then that is a purification, meaning purifying and washing, and the Arabs have repeated the letter, and its origin is defective, including nakhnakha his camel and its origin is from inakha, and ta'az'aza its origin is from wa'az, and khadkhadtu the container and its origin is from khawḍ, and they made it feminine while killing is masculine because he intended the meaning of martyrdom or intended a purifying characteristic, so the adjective stood in place of the noun.
المصمصة أن تصب الماء في الإناء ثم تحركه من غير أن تغسله بيدك خضخضة ثم تهريقه.
Al-miṣmaṣah is to pour water into a container then move it without washing it with your hand, shaking it, then pouring it out.
إذا أخرج لسانه وحركه بيده فقد نصنصه ومصمصه.
If he protruded his tongue and moved it with his hand, he has natsnasa and miṣmaṣa.
والماصة: داء يأخذ الصبي وهي شعرات تنبت منثنية على سناسن القفا فلا ينجع فيه طعام ولا شراب حتى تنتف من أصولها.
And al-māṣṣah: an ailment that affects a child, which are fine hairs growing bent on the nape of the neck, so that no food or drink benefits him until they are pulled out from their roots.
ورجل مصاص: شديد، وقيل: هو الممتلئ الخلق الأملس وليس بالشجاع.
And a man miṣāṣ: strong, and it was said: he is full-bodied and smooth, and not brave.
المصاص: شجر على نبتة الكولان ينبت في الرمل، واحدته مصاصة.
Al-miṣāṣ: a tree on the kōlān plant that grows in the sand, its singular is miṣāṣah.
المصاص نبات ينبت خيطانا دقاقا غير أن لها لينا ومتانة ربما خرز بها فتؤخذ فتدق على الفرازيم حتى تلين، وقال مرة: هو يبيس الثداء.
Al-miṣāṣ is a plant that grows as fine threads, but it has softness and strength, perhaps it is used for sewing, so it is taken and pounded on the seams until it softens, and once he said: it is the dried udder.
المصاص نبت له قشور كثيرة يابسة ويقال له المصاخ وهو الثداء، وهو ثقوب جيد، وأهل هراة يسمونه دليزاد؛ وفي الصحاح: المصاص نبات، ولم يحله.
Al-miṣāṣ is a plant with many dry husks, and it is also called al-miṣākh, which is the udder, and it is good for perforations, and the people of Herat call it Delizad; and in Al-Ṣiḥāḥ: Al-miṣāṣ is a plant, and he did not elaborate.
المصاص نبت يعظم حتى تفتل من لحائه الأرشية، ويقال له أيضا الثداء؛ قال الراجز: أودى بليلى كل تياز شول، ... صاحب علقى ومصاص وعبل
Al-miṣāṣ is a plant that grows large until ropes are twisted from its bark, and it is also called the udder; a poet said: Every short, sturdy, agile man has destroyed Laila, ... owner of a clinging, miṣāṣ, and strong camel.
والمصوص: القمئة.
And al-maṣūṣ: the dung.
المصوص الناقة القمئة.
Al-maṣūṣ: the dung-camel.
المصوصة من النساء المهزولة من داء قد خامرها؛ رواه ابن السكيت عنه.
Al-maṣūṣah from women is the emaciated one from a lingering illness; Ibn al-Sikkit narrated it from him.
من الخيل الورد المصامص وهو الذي يستقري سراته جدة سوداء ليست بحالكة، ولونها لون السواد، وهو ورد الجنبين وصفقتي العنق والجران والمراق، ويعلو أوظفته سواد ليس بحالك، والأنثى مصامصة؛
Among bay horses is al-muṣāmiṣ, which is one whose saddle area has a black patch that is not dark, and its color is black, and it is bay on the flanks, the two sides of the neck, the throat, and the hindquarters, and blackness not dark rises on its pasterns, and the female is muṣāmaṣah;
كميت مصامص أي خالص الكمتة.
A dark bay horse, muṣāmiṣ, meaning pure dark bay.
والمصامص الخالص من كل شيء.
And al-muṣāmiṣ: the pure of everything.
وإنه لمصامص في قومه إذا كان زاكي الحسب خالصا فيهم.
And he is muṣāmiṣ in his people if he is of pure lineage and noble among them.
وفرس ورد مصامص إذا كان خالصا في ذلك.
And a bay horse muṣāmiṣ if it is pure in that color.
فرس مصامص شديد تركيب العظام والمفاصل، وكذلك المصمص؛
A horse muṣāmiṣ, strong in the structure of bones and joints, and so is al-muṣmaṣ;
بمجوف بلقا، وأعلى لونه ورد مصامص
With a hollowed flank, and its upper color was rosy, pure.
مصامص ما ذاق يوما قتا، ولا شعيرا نخرا مرفتا، ضمر الصفاقين ممرا كفتا
Muṣāmiṣ, he never tasted barley or sprouted wheat, his flanks were lean, his passage was narrow.
والمصوص، بفتح الميم: طعام، والعامة تضمه.
And al-maṣūṣ, with fatḥah on the mim: food, and the common people pronounce it with dammah.
أنه كان يأكل مصوصا بخل خمر ؛ هو لحم ينقع في الخل ويطبخ، قال: ويحتمل فتح الميم ويكون فعولا من المص.
That he used to eat maṣūṣ with vinegar of wine; it is meat soaked in vinegar and cooked, he said: and it is possible to have fatḥah on the mim and be a pattern of fa'ūl from al-maṣṣ.
والمصان، بضم الميم، قصب السكر؛ عن ابن خالويه، ويقال له أيضا: المصاب والمصوب.
And al-miṣān, with dammah on the mim, is sugar cane; from Ibn Khālawayh, and it is also called al-miṣāb and al-miṣūb.
ومصيصة: ثغر من ثغور الروم معروفة، بتشديد الصاد الأولى.
And Muṣayṣah: a known fortress of the Romans, with the first ṣād doubled.
ومصيصة بلد بالشام ولا تقل مصيصة، بالتشديد.
And Muṣayṣah is a town in Syria, and do not say Muṣayṣah, with tashdid.
