And al-maḥṣ: is the strength of creation/build.

ويستحب من الفرس أن تمحص قوائمه أي تخلص من الرهل
And it is preferred for a horse that its limbs be purified, meaning free from excess flesh.
يقال منه: فرس ممحوص القوائم إذا خلص من الرهل
It is said of it: a horse with purified limbs if it is free from excess flesh.
فأما الممحص فالشديد الخلق، والأنثى ممحصة
As for al-mumḥaṣ, it is the one of strong build, and the female is mumḥaṣah.
ممحص الخلق وأى فرافصه
Strong of build, and its flanks are powerful.
والمحص بمنزلة الممحص، والجمع محاص ومحاصات
And al-maḥṣ is like al-mumḥaṣ, and the plural is maḥāṣ and maḥāṣāt.
محص الشوى معصوبة قوائمه
Lean of limb, its legs are tightly bound.
ومحص المعذر أسرفت حجباته
And the lean of the shoulder blade, its coverings have become excessive.

They pierced his heart with sharpened points.
وحبل محص ومحيص: أملس أجرد ليس له زئبر
And a rope that is maḥṣ and muḥayṣ: is smooth and bare, having no fuzz.
ومحص الحبل يمحص محصا إذا ذهب وبره حتى يملص
And the rope became smooth, its fuzz disappearing until it was slick.
ومحص كساق السوذقاني نازعت
And it was like the leg of the Sūdhqānī, pulled taut.
وأورد ابن بري هذا البيت مستشهدا به على المحيص المفتول الجسم
And Ibn Barrī cited this verse as evidence for al-muḥayṣ referring to a strongly built body.
ومحصت العقب من الشحم إذا نقيته منه لتفتله وترا
And you purify the heel from fat when you clean it to twist it into a rope.
ومحص به الأرض محصا: ضرب
And he struck it against the ground.
والمحص: خلوص الشيء
And al-maḥṣ: is the purity of a thing.
ومحص الشيء يمحصه محصا ومحصه: خلصه، زاد الأزهري: من كل عيب
And he purified the thing, removing from it every flaw.
شدِيدٌ جَلَزٌ صُلْبٌ مُمَحُوصُ الشَّوَى ... كالْكَرِّ، لاَ شَخْتٌ وَلاَ فِيهِ لَوَى
Strong, firm, solid, lean of limb... like a charging bull, neither stiff nor crooked.
وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ
And that He may purify what is in your hearts.
وَلِيُمَحِّصَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
And that Allah may purify those who believe.
أي يخلصهم، وقال الفراء: يعني يمحص الذنوب عن الذين آمنوا
Meaning He purifies them. Al-Farra' said: meaning He purifies the sins from those who believe.
جعل الله الأيام دولا بين الناس ليمحص المؤمنين بما يقع عليهم من قتل أو ألم أو ذهاب مال، قال: ويمحق الكافرين؛ أي يستأصلهم
Allah made days alternate among people so that He might purify the believers through what befalls them of killing, pain, or loss of wealth, and He said: and destroy the disbelievers; meaning eradicate them.
والمحص في اللغة: التخليص والتنقية
And al-maḥṣ in language means: purification and refinement.
فرغ من الصلاة وقد أمحصت الشمس أي ظهرت من الكسوف وانجلت
He finished the prayer, and the sun had emerged from the eclipse and cleared.
ويروى: امحصت، على المطاوعة وهو قليل في الرباعي، وأصل المحص التخليص
And it is narrated: imḥaṣat, following the pattern of passive verbs, which is rare for quadriliteral verbs, and the origin of al-maḥṣ is purification.
ومحصت الذهب بالنار إذا خلصته مما يشوبه
And you purify gold with fire when you separate it from what contaminates it.
يمحص الناس فيها كما يمحص ذهب المعدن
People are purified in it as gold is purified from ore.
يخلصون بعضهم من بعض كما يخلص ذهب المعدن من التراب
They are separated from each other as gold is separated from the earth.
وقيل: يختبرون كما يختبر الذهب لتعرف جودته من رداءته
And it was said: they are tested as gold is tested to know its quality or its inferiority.
والممحص: الذي محصت عنه ذنوبه
And al-mumḥaṣ: is he whose sins have been purified.
وتمحيص الذنوب: تطهيرها أيضا
And the purification of sins: is also their cleansing.
محص عنا ذنوبنا أي أذهب ما تعلق بنا من الذنوب
Purify us from our sins, meaning remove the sins that have attached to us.
أي يخلصهم من الذنوب
Meaning He purifies them from sins.
أي يبتليهم، قال: ومعنى التمحيص النقص
Meaning He tests them. He said: and the meaning of tamḥīṣ is diminution.
محص الله عنك ذنوبك أي نقصها
Allah diminished your sins, meaning He reduced them.
فسمى الله ما أصاب المسلمين من بلاء تمحيصا لأنه ينقص به ذنوبهم، وسماه الله من الكافرين محقا
So Allah called what befell the Muslims of tribulation a purification because He reduces their sins by it, and He called it destruction for the disbelievers.
والأمحص: الذي يقبل اعتذار الصادق والكاذب
And al-amḥaṣ: is he who accepts the excuse of the truthful and the liar.
ومحصت عن الرجل يده أو غيرها إذا كان بها ورم فأخذ في النقصان والذهاب
And the swelling on a man's hand or other part diminished, meaning it began to reduce and disappear.
رأيت فضلا كان شيئا ملفقا، ... فكشفه التمحيص حتى بدا ليا
I saw a virtue that was something fabricated, ... and the testing revealed it until it became clear to me.
ومحص الله ما بك ومحصه: أذهبه
And Allah removed what was with you and removed it: He made it go away.
محص المذبوح برجله مثل دحص
The slaughtered animal twitched its leg like it was being pushed.
