It is said: I killed him suddenly (qa'aṣtuhu and aq'aṣtuhu) if I killed him with a swift killing.
القعص أن يضرب الرجل بالسلاح أو بغيره فيموت مكانه قبل أن يريمه
Al-qa'ṣ is when a man is struck with a weapon or something else and dies in his place before moving.
كان يقعص الخيل بالرمح قعصا يوم الجمل
He used to kill horses instantly with the spear, a sudden killing, on the Day of the Camel.
أقعص ابنا عفراء أبا جهل
The sons of 'Afra' killed Abu Jahl instantly.
وقد أقعصه الضارب إقعاصا، وكذلك الصيد
And the striker killed him instantly (aq'aṣahu) with an instant killing, and likewise the hunted animal.

And the man finished him off (aq'aṣa): he delivered the final blow to him.
والاسم منها القعصة؛ عن ابن الأعرابي؛ وأنشد لابن زنيم: هذا ابن فاطمة الذي أفناكم ذبحا، وميتة قعصة لم تذبح
And the noun from it is al-qa'ṣah; from Ibn al-A'rabi; and he recited for Ibn Zunaim: This is the son of Fatima who annihilated you by slaughter, and a sudden death (qa'ṣah) without being slaughtered.

And I struck him with the spear and killed him suddenly (aq'aṣahu wa qa'aṣahu): I stabbed him with a stabbing and a quick death, and it was said: I hastened him.
