Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, even if it be as small as a partridge's nesting hollow, Allah will build him a house in Paradise.
وستجدون آخرين للشيطان في رؤوسهم مفاحص فافلقوها بالسيوف
And you will find others for whom Satan has made hollows in their heads; so cleave them with swords.
وستجد قوما فحصوا عن أوساط رؤوسهم الشعر فاضرب ما فحصوا عنه بالسيف
And you will find people who have shaved the hair from the middle of their heads; so strike what they have shaved off with the sword.
كأنهم حلقوا وسطها وتركوها مثل أفاحيص القطا
As if they shaved its middle and left it like the hollows of partridges.
وقد يكون الأفحوص للنعام
And al-afḥūṣ may be for ostriches.
وفحص للخبزة يفحص فحصا: عمل لها موضعا في النار
And faḥaṣa for the loaf, he faḥṣan: he made a place for it in the fire.
وفحص المطر التراب يفحصه: قلبه ونحى بعضه عن بعض فجعله كالأفحوص
And the rain faḥaṣa the soil, it faḥṣuhu: it turned it over and moved some of it from another, making it like an afḥūṣ.
وفي حديث قس: ولا سمعت له فحصا أي وقع قدم وصوت مشي
And in the narration of Qass: And I did not hear from him a faḥṣ, meaning the impact of a foot and the sound of walking.

فانطلق حتى أتى الفحص أي قدام العرش؛ هكذا فسر في الحديث ولعله من الفحص البسط والكشف
So he went until he came to al-faḥṣ, meaning in front of the Throne; thus it was explained in the hadith, and perhaps it is from faḥṣ meaning spreading and uncovering.
وفحص الظبي: عدا عدوا شديدا، والأعرف محص
And the gazelle faḥaṣa: it ran a severe run; and the more known is maḥaṣa.
والفحص: ما استوى من الأرض
And al-faḥṣ: what is level of the earth.
والفحصة: النقرة التي تكون في الذقن والخدين من بعض الناس
And al-faḥṣah: the dimple that is in the chin and cheeks of some people.
ويقال: بينهما فحاص أي عداوة

And so-and-so faḥaṣani fiḥāṣan: as if each of them was searching for the fault of his companion and for his secret.
وفلان فحيصي ومفاحصي بمعنى واحد
And so-and-so is my faḥīṣī and my mufāḥiṣī, meaning the same thing.
