الحص والحصاص: شدة العدو في سرعة، وقد حص يحص حصا.
Al-ḥiṣṣ and al-ḥiṣāṣ: intense running with speed, and he runs intensely, he runs intensely, with intense running.
إن الشيطان إذا سمع الأذان ولى وله حصاص
Indeed, when the devil hears the call to prayer, he flees with a great rush.
فقلت لعاصم: ما الحصاص؟ قال: أما رأيت الحمار إذا صر بأذنيه ومصع بذنبه وعدا؟ فذلك الحصاص
So I said to 'Āṣim: What is al-ḥiṣāṣ? He said: Have you not seen the donkey when it pins its ears back, flicks its tail, and runs? That is al-ḥiṣāṣ.
وحص الجليد النبت يحصه: أحرقه، لغة في حسه.
And frost burns the plant, it burns it; a variant of 'ḥassuhu'.
والحص: حلق الشعر، حصه يحصه حصا فحص حصصا وانحص
And al-ḥiṣṣ: shaving the hair; he shaves it, he shaves it, with shaving, he shaved it, and it became shaved.
والحاصة: الداء الذي يتناثر منه الشعر
And al-ḥāṣṣah: the disease from which hair falls out.
إن فعلت ذاك ألقى الله في رأسها الحاصة
If you do that, God will cast al-ḥāṣṣah upon her head.
حصت البيضة رأسه
The eggshell (or baldness) has shaved his head.
حص شعره وانحص: انجرد وتناثر.
His hair was shaved and fell out: it became detached and scattered.
وانحص ورق الشجر وانحت إذا تناثر.
And the leaves of the tree fell out and scattered when they dispersed.
ورجل أحص: منحص الشعر.
And a man aḥaṣṣ: one whose hair has fallen out.
وذنب أحص: لا شعر عليه
And a tail aḥaṣṣ: no hair upon it.
أفلت وانحص الذنب
He escaped, and the tail fell off (meaning he escaped narrowly).
كل يتيم ذي قفا محصوص
Every orphan with a shaved nape.
كأنما حثحثوا حصا قوادمه
As if their forelegs were pushed with gravel.
رجل أحص وامرأة حصاء.
A man aḥaṣṣ and a woman ḥaṣā'.
فجاءت سنة حصت كل شيء أي أذهبته.
And a year came that stripped everything, meaning it destroyed it.
وسنة حصاء إذا كانت جدبة قليلة النبات
And a barren year if it is a drought with little vegetation.
جاءت به من بلاد الطور تحدر ... حصاء، لم تترك دون العصا شذبا
It brought it from the lands of Ṭūr, descending... barren, leaving no twig below the stick.
يأوي إليكم بلا من ولا جحد ... من ساقه السنة الحصاء
He seeks refuge with you without favor or denial... from the barren year that afflicted him.
وتحصحص الوبر والزئبر: انجرد
And the fur and down became loose: they fell off.
لما رأى العبد ممرا مترصا؛ ... ومسدا أجرد قد تحصحصا
When the slave saw a path prepared; ... and a bare plain where the fur had fallen off.
فصبحه عند الشروق، غدية، ... كلاب ابن مر أو كلاب ابن سنبس مغرثة حصا كأن عيونها
And at sunrise, in the morning, he encountered the hunting dogs of Ibn Mur or Ibn Sinbis, their eyes like gravel, as if...
ناقة حصاء إذا لم يكن عليها وبر
A camel ḥaṣā' if there is no wool upon it.
حصيصة من الفرس: ما فوق الأشعر مما أطاف بالحافر لقلة ذاك الشعر.
Al-ḥaṣīṣah from a horse: what is above the hairy part around the hoof due to the scarcity of that hair.
وفرس أحص وحصيص: قليل شعر الثنة والذنب، وهو عيب، والاسم الحصص.
And a horse aḥaṣṣ and ḥaṣīṣ: little hair on the fetlock and tail, which is a defect, and the name is al-ḥiṣaṣ.
والأحص: الزمن الذي لا يطول شعره، والاسم الحصص أيضا.
And al-aḥaṣṣ: the period during which hair does not grow long, and the name is also al-ḥiṣaṣ.
والحصص في اللحية: أن يتكسر شعرها ويقصر، وقد انحصت.
And al-ḥiṣaṣ in the beard: that its hair breaks and shortens, and it has become short.
ورجل أحص بين الحصص أي قليل شعر الرأس.
And a man aḥaṣṣ among the ḥiṣaṣ, meaning with little hair on his head.
والأحص من الرجال: الذي لا شعر في صدره.
And al-aḥaṣṣ among men: one who has no hair on his chest.
ورجل أحص: قاطع للرحم؛ وقد حص رحمه يحصها حصا.
And a man aḥaṣṣ: a severer of kinship ties; and he severed his kinship ties, he severed them with severing.
ورحم حصاء: مقطوعة
And a kinship tie ḥaṣā': severed.
ومننه يقال بين بني فلان رحم حاصة أي قد قطعوها وحصوها لا يتواصلون عليها.
And from it is said: between the sons of so-and-so is a kinship tie ḥāṣṣah, meaning they have cut it and severed it, and they do not maintain contact through it.
والأحص أيضا: النكد المشؤوم.
And al-aḥaṣṣ also: the unlucky and ill-omened.
ويوم أحص: شديد البرد لا سحاب فيه
And a day aḥaṣṣ: intensely cold with no clouds in it.
والأزب، يعني بالأحص الذي تصفو شماله ويحمر فيه الأفق وتطلع شمسه ولا يوجد لها مس من البرد، وهو الذي لا سحاب فيه ولا ينكسر خصره
And al-azb, meaning by al-aḥaṣṣ that which has clear north winds, the horizon reddens, and its sun rises without any trace of cold, and it is that which has no clouds and its waist is not broken (i.e., it is severe).
وريح حصاء: صافية لا غبار فيها
And a wind ḥaṣā': clear with no dust in it.
والحصان: العبد والعير لأنهما يماشيان أثمانهما حتى يهرما فتنقص أثمانهما ويموتا.
And al-aḥaṣṣān: the slave and the donkey because they accompany their prices until they grow old, their prices decrease, and they die.
والحصة: النصيب من الطعام والشراب والأرض وغير ذلك، والجمع الحصص.
And al-ḥiṣṣah: the share of food, drink, land, and other things, and the plural is al-ḥiṣaṣ.
وتحاص القوم تحاصا: اقتسموا حصصهم.
And the people shared, they shared: they divided their portions.
وحاصه محاصة وحصاصا: قاسمه فأخذ كل واحد منهما حصته.
And he divided with him, with division and sharing: he shared with him, and each of them took his portion.
ويقال: حاصصته الشيء أي قاسمته فحصني منه كذا وكذا يحصني إذا صار ذلك حصتي.
And it is said: I shared the thing with him, meaning I divided it with him, so such and such became my portion from it, it became my portion when that became my share.
وأحص القوم: أعطاهم حصصهم.
And God gave the people their portions.
وأحصه المكان: أنزله
And the place settled him: it housed him.
وتحص من نظره بسطة حال الكفالة والكفاية
And he settled from his gaze the breadth of the situation of guarantee and sufficiency.
بميزان قسط لا يحص شعيرة
With a scale of justice that does not decrease a barleycorn.
والحص: الورس؛ وجمعه أحصاص وحصوص، وهو يصبغ به
And al-ḥiṣṣ: the woad; its plural is aḥṣāṣ and ḥuṣūṣ, and it is used for dyeing.
مشعشعة كأن الحص فيها، إذا ما الماء خالطها سخينا
Sparkling as if woad were in it, when water mixed with it, warm.
وقال بعضهم الحص اللؤلؤ، قال: ولست أحقه ولا أعرفه
And some said al-ḥiṣṣ is pearl, he said: I do not consider it correct nor do I know it.
ورجل حصحص وحصحوص: يتتبع دقائق الأمور فيعلمها ويحصيها.
And a man ḥaḥḥāṣ and ḥaḥḥūṣ: he follows the subtleties of matters, knowing and counting them.
وكان حصيص القوم وبصيصهم كذا أي عددهم.
And the count of the people and their numbers was thus.
والأحص: ماء معروف
And al-Aḥaṣṣ: a known water source.
نزلوا شبيثا والأحص وأصبحوا، ... نزلت منازلهم بنو ذبيان
They descended at Shabīth and al-Aḥaṣṣ and became..., the sons of Dhubyān descended to their dwellings.
فقال: تجاوزت الأحص أي ذهب سلطانك على الأحص
So he said: You have surpassed al-Aḥaṣṣ, meaning your authority over al-Aḥaṣṣ has gone.
وقال لجساس: أغثني بشربة ... تدارك بها طولا علي وأنعم
And he said to Jassās: Give me a drink... that you may remedy my long suffering and be gracious.
فقال: تجاوزت الأحص وماءه، ... وبطن شبيث، وهو ذو مترسم
So he said: You have surpassed al-Aḥaṣṣ and its water, ... and the belly of Shabīth, which is marked.
وبنو حصيص: بطن من العرب.
And Banū Ḥaṣīṣ: a clan of Arabs.
والحصحصة: الذهاب في الأرض، وقد حصحص
And al-ḥaḥḥaṣah: traveling in the land, and he traveled.
لما رآني بالبراز حصحصا
When he saw me in the open field, he traveled.
وحصحص في صم الحصى ثفناته، ... ورام القيام ساعة ثم صمما
And his knees dug into the solid gravel, ... and he intended to stand for a while, then he became firm.
لأن أحصحص في يدي جمرتين أحب إلي من أن أحصحص كعبين
For me to handle two embers in my hands is more beloved to me than to handle two heels.
فعلت حتى حصحص فيها
I did it until he moved firmly within her.
خل سبيلها يا محصحص
Let her go, O persistent one.
حصحص فيها أي حركته حتى تمكن واستقر، قال الأزهري: أراد الرجل أن ذكره انشام فيها وبالغ حتى قر في مهبلها.
He moved firmly within her, meaning he moved it until it became firm and settled. Al-Azhari said: The man intended that his penis entered her and he exerted himself until it settled in her womb.
ويقال: حصحصت التراب وغيره إذا حركته وفحصته يمينا وشمالا.
And it is said: I stirred the soil and other things if you moved it and sifted it right and left.
ويقال: تحصحص وتحزحز أي لزق بالأرض واستوى.
And it is said: he stuck close and settled, meaning he clung to the ground and became level.
وحصحص فلان ودهمج إذا مشى مشي المقيد.
And so-and-so walked like a prisoner and a bound person if he walked like a fettered person.
ما تحصحص فلان إلا حول هذا الدرهم ليأخذه.
So-and-so did not persist except around this dirham to take it.
والحصحصة لزوقه بك وإتيانه وإلحاحه عليك.
And al-ḥaḥḥaṣah is his sticking to you, his coming, and his persistence with you.
والحصحصة: بيان الحق بعد كتمانه، وقد حصحص.
And al-ḥaḥḥaṣah: the revelation of truth after its concealment, and the truth has been revealed.
الآن حصحص الحق
Now the truth has become manifest.
وقال أبو العباس: الحصحصة المبالغة.
And Abu al-'Abbas said: Al-ḥaḥḥaṣah is exaggeration.
يقال: حصحص الرجل إذا بالغ في أمره، وقيل: اشتقاقه من اللغة من الحصة أي بانت حصة الحق من حصة الباطل.
It is said: The man exaggerated if he went to extremes in his affair, and it was said: its derivation is from the language from al-ḥiṣṣah, meaning the share of truth became distinct from the share of falsehood.
والحصحص، بالكسر: الحجارة، وقيل: التراب وهو أيضا الحجر.
And al-ḥaḥḥaṣ, with kasra: stones, and it was said: dust, and it is also a stone.
والحصحص والكثكث، كلاهما: الحجارة.
And al-ḥaḥḥaṣ and al-kathkath, both: stones.
بفيه الحصحص أي التراب.
In his mouth is al-ḥaḥḥaṣ, meaning dust.
والحصحصة: الإسراع في السير.
And al-ḥaḥḥaṣah: hastening in travel.
وقرب حصحاص: بعيد.
And a distant place, ḥaḥḥāṣ: far.
وقرب حصحاص مثل حثحاث: وهو الذي لا وتيرة فيه، وقيل: سير حصحاص أي سريع ليس فيه فتور.
And a place ḥaḥḥāṣ like ḥaḥḥāth: which has no slowness in it, and it was said: a journey ḥaḥḥāṣ, meaning fast with no slackening.
ألا ليت شعري، هل تغير بعدنا ... ظباء بذي الحصحاص، نجل عيونها؟
Oh, I wish I knew, have the gazelles changed after us in Dhū al-Ḥaḥḥāṣ, their eyes wide?
