And he informed on the man: he told him of his faults, and he informed on him and incited: he slandered and provoked; Al-Harith ibn Hillizah said: O speaker who informs on us... from Amr, and is there any permanence to that?

وقيل: أقرش به إقراشا أي سعى به ووقع فيه؛ حكاه يعقوب.

And it is said: He informed on him, meaning he acted against him and spoke ill of him; Ya'qub narrated it.

ويقال: اقترش فلان بفلان إذا سعى به وبغاه سوءا.

And it is said: So-and-so sought to harm so-and-so, meaning he acted against him and wished him ill.

والله ما اقترشت بك أي ما وشيت بك.

By God, I did not inform on you, meaning I did not slander you.

والمقرش: المحرش.

And the muqarsh: the instigator.

والتقريش: مثل التحريش.

And taqreesh: like tahreesh (incitement).

وتقرش عن الشيء: تنزه عنه.

And he abstained from the thing: he kept away from it.

والقرشة «3»: صوت نحو صوت الجوز والشن إذا حركتهما.

واقترشت الرماح وتقرشت وتقارشت: تطاعنوا بها فصك بعضها بعضا ووقع بعضها على بعض فسمعت لها صوتا، وقيل: تقرشها وتقارشها تشاجرها وتداخلها في الحرب؛ قال أبو زبيد: إما تقرش بك السلاح، فلا ... أبكيك إلا للدلو والمرس

And it is said: They were named thus because of their gathering, meaning their gathering to Mecca from its surroundings after they had dispersed in the land when Qusai ibn Kilab prevailed over it, and by this Qusai was named Al-Mujammi' (the gatherer).

وقيل: سميت بقريش بن مخلد بن غالب بن فهر كان صاحب عيرهم فكانوا يقولون: قدمت عير قريش وخرجت عير قريش،

And it is said: They were named after Quraysh ibn Makhlad ibn Ghalib ibn Fihr, who was in charge of their caravans, so they used to say: The caravan of Quraysh has arrived and the caravan of Quraysh has departed.

وقيل: سميت بذلك لتجرها وتكسبها وضربها في البلاد تبتغي الرزق،

And it is said: They were named thus because of their trade, their earning, and their traveling in the lands seeking sustenance.

وقيل: سميت بذلك لأنهم كانوا أهل تجارة ولم يكونوا أصحاب ضرع وزرع من قولهم: فلان يتقرش المال أي يجمعه؛ قال سيبويه:

And it is said: They were named thus because they were people of trade and not people of livestock and agriculture, from their saying: So-and-so taqarasha wealth, meaning he collects it; Sibawayh said:

وإذا نشرت له الثناء، وجدته ... ورث المكارم طرفها وتلادها

And if you spread praise for him, you will find him... inheriting nobility, both new and old.

وكل قريشي، عليه مهابة، ... سريع إلى داعي الندى والتكرم

And every Qurashi, there is awe upon him,... swift to the caller of generosity and nobility.

والمنظم: الذي يتلو بعضه بعضا.

And Al-Munazzam: that which follows one another.

وفي التهذيب: إذا نسبوا إلى قريش قالوا: قرشي، بحذف الزيادة، قال: وللشاعر إذا اضطر أن يقول قريشي.

And in Al-Tadhhib: If they attribute to Quraysh, they say: Qurashi, by omitting the addition, he said: And the poet, if compelled, may say Qurayshi.
