He said: Al-firash are what you see as small bugs throwing themselves into the fire.
شبه الله عز وجل الناس يوم البعث بالجراد المنتشر وبالفراش المبثوث لأنهم إذا بعثوا يموج بعضهم في بعض كالجراد الذي يموج بعضه في بعض
Allah, the Almighty, likened people on the Day of Resurrection to swarming locusts and scattered moths, because when they are resurrected, they will surge into each other like locusts that surge into each other.
وقال الفراء: يريد كالغوغاء من الجراد يركب بعضه بعضا كذلك الناس يجول يومئذ بعضهم في بعض
And Al-Farra' said: He means like the rabble of locusts, some riding on others; likewise, people will mill about on that day, some among others.
والفراش الذي يطير؛ وأنشد: أودى بحلمهم الفياش، فحلمهم ... حلم الفراش، غشين نار المصطلي
And al-firash is that which flies; and he recited: Al-Fayyash destroyed their intellect, so their intellect is the intellect of the firash, covering the fire of the one warming themselves.
وفي المثل: أطيش من فراشة
And in the proverb: More flighty than a moth/butterfly.
فتتقادع بهم جنبة السراط تقادع الفراش
So the side of the bridge makes them stumble like moths.
هو بالفتح الطير الذي يلقي نفسه في ضوء السراج
It is with the fatḥa: the bird that throws itself into the light of the lamp.
ومن الحديث: جعل الفراش وهذه الدواب تقع فيها
And from the Hadith: He made the moths and these creatures fall into it.

فأتانا يسعى تفرش أم البيض شدا، وقد تعالى النهار
So he came to us running, flapping the mother of eggs vigorously, and the day had risen high.
ويقال: فرش الطائر تفريشا إذا جعل يرفرف على الشيء، وهي الشرشرة والرفرفة
And it is said: The bird farasha, tafreeshan, if it starts to flutter over something, which is the rustling and fluttering.
فجاءت الحمرة فجعلت تفرش
So the red bird came and began to flutter.
هو أن تقرب من الأرض وتفرش جناحيها وترفرف
It is to approach the ground and spread its wings and flutter.
ضربه فما أفرش عنه حتى قتله
He struck him and did not cease from him until he killed him.
وأفرش عنهم الموت أي ارتفع

وقولهم: ما أفرش عنه أي ما أقلع
And their saying: What is it removed from? Meaning, what has ceased?
لم تعد أن أفرش عنها الصقله

إلا أن يكون مالا مفترشا أي مغصوبا قد انبسطت فيه الأيدي بغير حق

من قولهم: افترش عرض فلان إذا استباحه بالوقيعة فيه، وحقيقته جعله لنفسه فراشا يطؤه

أهاجك برق آخر الليل واصب، تضمنه فرش الجبا فالمسارب؟

وأقفرت الفراشة والحبيا، وأقفر، بعد فاطمة، الشقير
And Al-Farasha and Al-Hubya became desolate, and Al-Shaqir became desolate, after Fatima.
وفي الحديث ذكر فرش، بفتح الفاء وتسكين الراء، واد سلكه النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، حين سار إلى بدر، والله أعلم
And in the Hadith, Farsh is mentioned, with fatha on the fa and sukun on the ra, a valley that the Prophet, peace be upon him, traversed when he marched to Badr, and Allah knows best.
