قال ساعدة بن جؤية: عناش عدو لا يزال مشمرا ... برجل، إذا ما الحرب شب سعيرها
Sa'idah bin Ju'ayyah said: An enemy who is an 'annash, always ready with his leg, when the fire of war flares up.
وأسد عناش: معانش، وصف بالمصدر.
And a fighting lion: one that embraces (in combat), described by the masdar.
يا معشر المسلمين كونوا أسدا عناشا ،
O assembly of Muslims, be fighting lions!
والمعنى: كونوا أسدا ذات عناش؛
And the meaning is: Be lions possessing 'annash (fighting prowess).
والمصدر يوصف به الواحد والجمع، تقول: رجل ضيف وقوم ضيف.
And the masdar is used to describe the singular and the plural, you say: a guest man and guest people.
اعتنش الناس: ظلمهم؛
The people wronged them;
قال رجل من بني أسد: وما قول عبس: وائل هو ثأرنا ... وقاتلنا، إلا اعتناش بباطل أي ظلم بباطل.
A man from Banu Asad said: And the saying of Abs: 'Wail is our vengeance... and our fighting,' is nothing but oppression with falsehood, meaning injustice with falsehood.
وعنشه عنشا: أغضبه.
And he angered him with 'unashan.
وما له عنشوش أي شيء.
And he has nothing at all.
وما في إبله عنشوش أي شيء.
And he has nothing among his camels.
والعنشنش: الطويل، وقيل: السريع في شبابه.
And al-'anshanash: the tall, and it was said: the fast in his youth.
فرس عنشنشة: سريعة؛
A swift mare: fast;
قال: عنشنش تعدو به عنشنشة، ... للدرع فوق ساعديه خشخشه
He said: A swift one, it runs with it swiftly, ... the armor above its forearms makes a rattling sound.
وروى ابن الأعرابي قول رؤبة: فقل لذاك المزعج المعنوش
And Ibn al-A'rabi narrated the saying of Ru'bah: So say to that agitated and driven one.
ويفسره فقال: المعنوش المستفز المسوق.
And he explained it, saying: Al-ma'nush is the provoked, the driven.
يقال: عنشه يعنشه إذا ساقه.
It is said: 'Anashahu yu'anshuhu if he drives him.
والمعانشة: المفاخرة.
And al-mu'anashah: boasting.
