فقلت له: ألصق بأيبس ساقها، ... فإن تجبر العرقوب لا تجبر النسا

So I said to him: stick to the driest part of her leg, ... if the ankle bone heals, the sinew will not heal.

والأيبس هو العظم الذي يقال له الظنبوب الذي إذا غمزته في وسط ساقك آلمك، وإذا كسر فقد ذهبت الساق، قال: وهو اسم ليس بنعت، والجمع الأيابس

And al-aybas is the bone called the tibia, which if you press it in the middle of your leg, it hurts you, and if it breaks, the leg is gone. He said: and it is a noun, not an adjective, and the plural is al-ayābis.

ويبيس الماء: العرق، وقيل: العرق إذا جف

And yabīs al-mā': sweat, and it is said: sweat when it dries.

تراها من يبيس الماء شهبا، ... مخالط درة منها غرار

You see them from the dried sweat as whitish, ... mixed with drops from it intermittently.

يقول: تعطي أحيانا وتمنع أحيانا، وإنما قال شهبا لأن العرق يجف عليها فتبيض

He means: it gives sometimes and withholds sometimes, and he said 'whitish' because the sweat dries on it and becomes white.

ويقال للرجل: إيبس يا رجل أي اسكت

And it is said to a man: ibis, O man, meaning be quiet.

وسكران يابس: لا يتكلم من شدة السكر كأن الخمر أسكتته بحرارتها

And a yābis drunkard: does not speak from the intensity of drunkenness, as if the wine has silenced him with its heat.

رجل يابس من السكر، قال ابن سيده: وعندي أنه سكر جدا حتى كأنه مات فجف

A man who is yābis from drunkenness. Ibn Sīdah said: And in my opinion, he is extremely drunk as if he were dead and dried up.
