And al-harmas: one of the names of the lion; it is said: it is the strong one among the beasts.

هرس يهرس هرسا: أخفى أكله، وقيل: بالغ فيه فكأنه ضد.

Haras, he harses, harsan: he concealed his eating, and it is said: he exaggerated in it, so it is like its opposite.

ابن الأعرابي: هرس الرجل إذا كثر أكله؛ قال العجاج: وكلكلا ذا حاميات أهرسا

Ibn al-A'rabi said: A man harses when his eating is abundant; Al-A'raj said: And a chest of a strong-willed one, a crusher of food.

يقال: هو هرس أهرس للذي يدق كل شيء، والفحل يهرس القرن بكلكله.

It is said: He is a hars, a harsas, for one who pounds everything, and the stallion crushes the horn with its chest.

وإبل مهاريس: شديدة الأكل؛ قال أبو عبيد: المهاريس من الإبل التي تقضم العيدان إذا قل الكلأ وأجدبت البلاد فتتبلغ بها كأنها تهرسها بأفواهها هرسا أي تدقها

And maharis camels: strong eaters; Abu Ubaid said: Al-maharis are camels that chew on branches when fodder is scarce and the land is barren, and they sustain themselves with them as if they are crushing them with their mouths, meaning pounding them.

And al-hirs and al-ahras: the strong-willed, formidable lion.

And in the hadith of Amr bin Al-Aas: 'It is as if in my belly is a thorn of al-haras'; he said: It is a thorny tree or herb from the best of herbs.

And al-mihras: a carved rectangular stone from which one performs ablution and in which one pounds.

وفي الحديث: أن أبا هريرة روي عن النبي، صلى الله عليه سلم، أنه قال: إذا أراد أحدكم الوضوء فليفرغ على يديه من إنائه ثلاثا، فقال له قين الأشجعي: فإذا جئنا إلى مهراسكم هذا كيف نصنع؟ أراد بالمهراس هذا الحجر المنقور الضخم الذي لا يقله الرجال ولا يحركونه لثقله يسع ماء كثيرا ويتطهر الناس منه.

And in the hadith: Abu Hurayrah narrated from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that he said: 'When one of you wants to perform ablution, let him pour water on his hands from his vessel three times.' So Qayn al-Ashja'i said to him: 'And when we come to this mihras of yours, what shall we do?' He meant by al-mihras this large carved stone which men cannot lift nor move due to its weight, it holds a lot of water, and people purify themselves from it.

وجاء في حديث آخر أن النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، مر بمهراس وجماعة من الرجال يتحاذونه أي يحملونه ويرفعونه، وهو حجر منقور، سمي مهراسا لأنه يهرس به الحب وغيره.

And it came in another hadith that the Prophet, peace be upon him, passed by a mihras and a group of men were carrying it, meaning lifting and raising it. It is a carved stone, named mihras because grain and other things are pounded in it.

وفي حديث أنس: فقمت إلى مهراس لنا فضربتها بأسفله حتى تكسرت

And in the hadith of Anas: 'So I went to our mihras and struck it at its base until it broke.'

وفي الحديث: أنه عطش يوم أحد فجاءه علي، كرم الله وجهه، بماء من المهراس فعافه وغسل به الدم عن وجهه ؛ قال: المهراس صخرة منقورة تسع كثيرا من الماء وقد يعمل منه حياض للماء، وقيل: المهراس في هذا الحديث اسم ماء بأحد؛ قال: وقتيلا بجانب المهراس

And in the hadith: 'He was thirsty on the day of Uhud, so Ali, may Allah honor his face, brought him water from al-mihras, so he disliked it and washed the blood from his face with it.' He said: Al-mihras is a carved rock that holds a lot of water, and water basins may be made from it. It is said: Al-mihras in this hadith is the name of a water source at Uhud; he said: 'And the slain beside al-mihras.'

والمهراس: موضع. ويقال مهراس أيضا؛ قال الأعشى: فركن مهراس إلى مارد، فقاع منفوحة ذي الحائر

And al-mihras: a place. And it is also said mihras; Al-A'sha said: So a corner of mihras towards Marid, a bubbling spring of Dhu al-Ha'ir.
