And al-jalla: the mature camels, its singular is jalīl like ṣabī and ṣabiyya, and it was said: it is the large portion of them, and it was said: it is the large, heavy, voracious she-camel, its singular is 'ajāsā', and the plural is 'ajāsā', he said: And do not say an 'ajāsā' camel, and al-'ajāsā' is lengthened and shortened; and he recited: And he circled the pool, an 'ajāsā' voracious one.
والعجوس: آخر ساعة من الليل.
And al-'ajūs: the last hour of the night.
والعجوس: إبطاء مشي العجاساء، وهي الناقة السمينة تتأخر عن النوق لثقل قتالها، وقتالها شحمها ولحمها.
And al-'ajūs: the slowness of the walk of the 'ajāsā', which is the fat she-camel that lags behind the other camels due to the heaviness of its burden, and its burden is its fat and flesh.

And I will not come to you for 'ajīs al-dahr, meaning its end; Abu 'Ubayd from al-Ahmar: So I swore I would not come to Ibn Damra willingly, ... for sajīs 'ajīs, until my tongue becomes clear.
تعجست بي الراحلة وعجست بي إذا تنكبت عن الطريق من نشاطها؛ وأنشد لذي الرمة: إذا قال حادينا: أيا عجست بنا ... صهابية الأعراف عوج السوالف
The riding animal ta'ajjasat with us and 'ajasat with us if it veered off the path due to its liveliness; and he recited for Dhu al-Rumma: When our driver said: Oh, the riding animal veered off with us... with dark manes and curved necks.
والعجاسا، بالقصر: التقاعس.
And al-'ajasā, with shortening: lagging behind.
وعجسه عن حاجته يعجسه وتعجسه: حبسه؛ وعجستني عجاساء الأمور عنك.
And 'ajasahu 'an ḥājatihi yu'ajisuhu wa yata'ajjisuhu: he detained him; and the 'ajāsā' of matters detained me from you.
وما منعك، فهو العجاساء.
And what prevented you, it is al-'ajāsā'.
وعجسني عن حاجتي عجسا: حبسني.
And 'ajasani 'an ḥājatī 'ajasan: it detained me.
وتعجستني أمور: حبستني.

And a 'ajīs, 'ajīsā', and 'ajāsā' stallion: unable to breed, meaning he does not impregnate.
والعيجوس: سمك صغار يملح؛ وأما قول الراجز: وفتية نبهتهم بالعجس
And al-'ayjūs: small salted fish; as for the saying of the rajaz: And youths whom I woke with al-'ajs
فهو طائفة من وسط الليل كأنه مأخوذ من عجس القوس؛ يقال: مضى عجس من الليل.
It is a portion from the middle of the night, as if taken from the 'ajs of the bow; it is said: a portion of the night has passed.
والعجسة: الساعة من الليل، وهي الهتكة والطبيق؛ وروى ابن الأعرابي بيت زهير: بكرن بكورا واستعن بعجسة
And al-'ajsa: the hour of the night, and it is the darkness and the covering; and Ibn al-A'rābī narrated the verse of Zuhayr: They set out early and sought help in the 'ajsa.
قال: وأراد بعجسة سواد الليل وهذا يدل على أن من رواه: واستحرن بسحرة، لم يرد تقديم البكور على الاستحار.
He said: And he intended by 'ajsa the darkness of the night, and this indicates that whoever narrated it as: and they rested in the pre-dawn, did not intend to precede the early departure with resting.
وتعجست أمر فلان إذا تعقبته وتتبعته.
And ta'ajjasa fulan's affair if you followed it up and investigated it.
وفي حديث الأحنف: فيتعجسكم في قريش أي يتبعكم.
And in the hadith of al-Ahnaf: He ta'ajjisukum among Quraysh, meaning he follows you.
ويقال: تعجست الأرض غيوث إذا أصابها غيث بعد غيث فتثاقل عليها.
And it is said: the land ta'ajjasat with rains if rain after rain falls upon it and becomes heavy.
ومطر عجوس أي منهمر؛ قال رؤبة: أوطف يهدي مسبلا عجوسا
And 'ajūs rain, meaning pouring; Ru'ba said: Or a cloud leading, sending down heavy rain.
وتعجسه عرق سوء وتعقله وتثقله إذا قصر به عن المكارم.
And a bad lineage ta'ajjasa-hu and hindered him and weighed him down if it fell short of noble deeds for him.
وفي الحديث: يتعجسكم عند أهل مكة ؛ قيل: معناه يضعف رأيكم عندهم.
And in the hadith: He ta'ajjisukum among the people of Mecca; it was said: its meaning is that your opinion is weakened among them.
