لا يسمعون حسيسها
They do not hear its subtle sound.
حس بالشيء يحس حسا وحسا وحسيسا وأحس به وأحسه: شعر به
He felt the thing, feeling it with a feeling, a sensation, and a subtle sound; he sensed it and felt it: he was aware of it.
ويقال: حست بالشيء إذا علمته وعرفته
And it is said: you knew the thing if you knew and recognized it.
ما أحسست بالخبر وما أحست وما حسيت ما حست أي لم أعرف منه شيئا
I did not sense the news, nor did it sense, nor did I know, nor did it know, meaning I did not know anything from it.
تقول من أين حسيت هذا الخبر؛ يريدون من أين تخبرته
You say, 'From where did you sense this news?' meaning, 'From where did you get informed about it?'
حسست بالخبر وأحسست به أي أيقنت به
I sensed the news and I felt it, meaning I was certain of it.
وربما قالوا حسيت بالخبر وأحسيت به، يبدلون من السين ياء
And sometimes they say 'ḥussītu' with the news and 'aḥussītu' with it, substituting a 'ya' for the 'sin'.
حس الحمى وحساسها: رسها وأولها عند ما تحس
The onset of fever and its initial stage: its beginning and its first occurrence when it is felt.
متى أحسست أم ملدم؟ أي متى وجدت مس الحمى
When did you feel the onset of the fever? Meaning, when did you find the touch of the fever?
الإحساس العلم بالحواس، وهي مشاعر الإنسان كالعين والأذن والأنف واللسان واليد
Al-iḥsās is knowledge through the senses, which are the human faculties like the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and hand.
والحس: وجع يصيب المرأة بعد الولادة
And al-ḥiss: is a pain that afflicts a woman after childbirth.
فإنه يقطع الحس
For it cuts off the pain.
تحسس الخبر: تطلبه وتبحثه
Taḥassus al-khabar: seeking it and searching for it.
يا بني اذهبوا فتحسسوا من يوسف وأخيه
O my sons, go and search for Joseph and his brother.
تحسست الخبر وتحسيته، وقال شمر: تندسته مثله
I searched for the news and sought it out, and Shammir said: 'I investigated it similarly.'
والتحسس شبه التسمع والتبصر؛ قال: والتجسس، بالجيم، البحث عن العورة
And taḥassus is like eavesdropping and scrutinizing; he said: and tajassus, with a jim, is searching for what is private.
تجسست الخبر وتحسسته بمعنى واحد
I investigated the news and I searched for it, meaning the same thing.
فلما أحس عيسى منهم الكفر
And when Jesus perceived disbelief from them.
هل تحس منهم من أحد
Do you perceive any of them?
فلما وجد عيسى
And when Jesus found.
هل أحسست منهم من أحد؟
Did you perceive anyone from them?
هل رأيته؟
Did you see him?
ما أحسست منهم أحدا
I did not see anyone from them.
فلقت هل حستما من شيء؟
I asked, 'Did you sense anything?'
فنظرت هل أحس سهمي فلم أر شيئا
And I looked to see if my arrow had landed, but I saw nothing.
لا حساس من ابني موقد النار؛ لا وجود
No trace of the sons of the fire-lighter; no existence.
ذهب فلان فلا حساس به أي لا يحس به أو لا يحس مكانه
So-and-so went, and there is no trace of him, meaning he is not sensed or his place is not sensed.
لا يسمعون حسيسها أي لا يسمعون حسها وحركة تلهبها
They do not hear its subtle sound, meaning they do not hear its sensation and the movement of its flames.
إن الشيطان حساس لحاس؛ أي شديد الحس والإدراك
Indeed, Satan is keenly perceptive and discerning; meaning intensely sensing and perceiving.
وما سمع له حسا ولا جرسا؛ الحس من الحركة والجرس من الصوت
And no sound or noise was heard from him; al-ḥiss is from movement and al-jurs is from sound.
وجاء بالمال من حسه وبسه وحسه وبسه؛ أي من حيث شاء
And he brought the money from wherever he pleased, from wherever he pleased.
جئني من حسك وبسك؛ معنى هذا كله من حيث كان ولم يكن
Bring me from wherever you are; the meaning of all this is from wherever he was and was not.
إني لأجد حسا من وجع
Indeed, I feel a sensation of pain.
لآخذن منك الشيء بحس أو ببس أي بمشادة أو رفق
I will take the thing from you by force or by gentleness.
ضرب فما قال حس ولا بس
He was struck and did not say 'ḥass' or 'bass'.
حس حس كيف صبرك على نار جهنم
Hass, hass, how is your patience with the fire of Hell?
هي بكسر السين والتشديد، كلمة يقولها الإنسان إذا أصابه ما مضه وأحرقه غفلة كالجمرة والضربة ونحوها
It is with a kasra on the 'sin' and a shadda, a word a person says when something bites and burns them unexpectedly, like an ember or a blow and the like.
فقال: حس؛ هي بكسر السين والتشديد
And he said: 'Hass'; it is with a kasra on the 'sin' and a shadda.
نعسا فأصاب قدمه قدم رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: حس
He was drowsy and his foot struck the foot of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, and he said: 'Hass'.
وبات فلان بحسة سيئة وحسة سوء أي بحالة سوء وشدة
And so-and-so spent the night in a bad state and a bad condition, meaning in a state of badness and hardship.
مرت بالقوم حواس أي سنون شداد
Years passed over the people, meaning harsh years.
والحس: القتل الذريع
And al-ḥiss: is widespread killing.
حسسناهم أي استأصلناهم قتلا
We annihilated them, meaning we exterminated them by killing.
حسهم يحسهم حسا: قتلهم قتلا ذريعا مستأصلا
He killed them, annihilating them with a thorough, exterminating killing.
إذ تحسونهم بإذنه؛ أي تقتلونهم قتلا شديدا
When you annihilate them by His permission; meaning you kill them with severe killing.
حسوهم بالسيف حسا؛ أي استأصلوهم قتلا
They killed them with the sword, annihilating them; meaning they exterminated them by killing.
جراد محسوس: قتلته النار
Locusts that are maḥsūs: killed by fire.
أنه أتي بجراد محسوس
That locusts killed by cold were brought to him.
حسهم يحسهم: وطئهم وأهانهم
He trampled them and humiliated them.
والحس: إضرار البرد بالأشياء
And al-ḥiss: is the harm of cold to things.
أصابتهم حاسة من البرد
A plague of cold afflicted them.
إن البرد محسة للنبات والكلإ، بفتح الميم، أي يحسه ويحرقه
Indeed, the cold is a cause of destruction for plants and herbage, with a fatḥa on the 'mim', meaning it destroys and burns it.
أصابت الأرض حاسة أي برد؛ عن اللحياني، أنته على معنى المبالغة أو الجائحة
The land was afflicted with a ḥāssah, meaning cold; from Al-Lihyani, referring to exaggeration or a calamity.
أصابتهم حاسة: وذلك إذا أضر البرد أو غيره بالكلإ
A ḥāssah afflicted them: and that is when cold or something else harms the herbage.
نارا تحس وتسفع
A fire that burns and scorches.
تحس أي تحرق وتفني، من الحاسة، وهي الآفة التي تصيب الزرع والكلأ فتحرقه
Taḥuss means it burns and destroys, from al-ḥāssah, which is the affliction that strikes crops and herbage, burning them.
أرض محسوسة: أصابها الجراد والبرد
An earth that is maḥsūsah: locusts and cold have afflicted it.
حس البرد الجراد: قتله
The cold killed the locusts: it killed them.
جراد محسوس إذا مسته النار أو قتلته
Locusts that are maḥsūs if fire touched them or killed them.
إذا حسه البرد فقتله
When the cold affects it and kills it.
فبعثت إليه بجراد محسوس أي قتله البرد، وقيل: هو الذي مسته النار
So she sent him locusts that were maḥsūs, meaning killed by the cold, and it was said: it is that which fire touched.
الحاسة: الجراد يحس الأرض أي يأكل نباتها
Al-ḥāssah: the locust that damages the earth, meaning it eats its vegetation.
الحاسة الريح تحثي التراب في الغدر فتملؤها فييبس الثرى
Al-ḥāssah: the wind that blows dust into hollows and fills them, causing the soil to dry up.
وسنة حسوس إذا كانت شديدة المحل قليلة الخير
And a ḥasūs year if it was harsh and little good.
وسنة حسوس: تأكل كل شيء
And a ḥasūs year: it consumes everything.
تأكل بعد الخضرة اليبيسا
It eats the dry after the green.
حس الرأس يحسه حسا إذا جعله في النار فكلما شيط أخذه بشفرة
He seared the head, searing it with a searing, if he put it in the fire and whenever it charred, he took it with a blade.
