يعني به مجلس النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم،
meaning the assembly of the Prophet, peace be upon him,
ورجل جلسة مثال همزة أي كثير الجلوس.
And a man 'jalsah' like 'hamzah' means one who sits a lot.
يقال: ارزن في مجلسك ومجلستك.
It is said: 'Be dignified in your place of sitting and your assembly place.'
لهم مجلس صهب السبال أذلة، ... سواسية أحرارها وعبيدها
They have an assembly of grey-bearded men, humble... equal are their free and their slaves.
وإن مجلس بني عوف ينظرون إليه ؛ أي أهل المجلس على حذف المضاف.
And the assembly of Banu 'Awf look at him; meaning the people of the assembly, with an omitted noun.
وقد جالسه مجالسة وجلاسا.
And he sat with him in companionship and association.
فقال: كريم النحاس طيب الجلاس.
And he said: 'Noble in character, pleasant in company.'
والجلس والجليس والجليس: المجالس، وهم الجلساء والجلاس،
And 'al-jils' and 'al-jalīs' and 'al-jalīs': the companions, and they are 'al-julsā'' and 'al-jallās',
وحكى اللحياني أن المجلس والجلس ليشهدون بكذا وكذا، يريد أهل المجلس،

ومنه جمل جلس وناقة جلس أي وثيق جسيم.
And from it is a 'jils' camel and a 'jils' she-camel, meaning sturdy and stout.
وفي حديث النساء: بزولة وجلس.
And in the hadith about women: 'bazūlah' and 'jils'.
أما ليالي كنت جارية، ... فحففت بالرقباء والجلس
As for the nights I was a maiden, ... I was surrounded by watchers and those who stayed close.
حتى إذا ما الخدر أبرزني، ... نبذ الرجال بزولة جلس
Until when the veil revealed me, ... men abandoned me for a capable, steadfast woman.
والجلس: الصخرة العظيمة الشديدة.
And 'al-jils': the great, hard rock.
الجلس: كل مرتفع من الأرض؛
'Al-jils': every elevated part of the land;
قل للفرزدق والسفاهة كاسمها: ... إن كنت تارك ما أمرتك فاجلس
Say to Al-Farazdaq, and foolishness is its name: ... If you are to abandon what I commanded you, then go to the highlands.
وجلس السحاب: أتى نجدا أيضا؛
And the clouds 'jalasat': they came to the highlands too;
ثم انتهى بصري، وأصبح جالسا ... منه لنجد طائف متغرب
Then my sight reached its end, and it became as if a wanderer from the highlands was approaching.
فأجمع أجلاسا شدادا يسوقها ... إلي، إذا راح الرعاء، رعائيا
So gather strong, stout camels and drive them ... to me, when the shepherds return in the evening.
وقيل: أصله جلز فقلبت الزاي سينا كأنه جلز جلزا أي فتل حتى اكتنز واشتد أسره؛
And it was said: its origin is 'jalaza', so the 'zay' was changed to 'sin', as if it was twisted until it became compact and its girth tightened;
وقالت طائفة: يسمى جلسا لطوله وارتفاعه.
And a group said: it is called 'jils' for its height and elevation.
الجلس: كل مرتفع من الأرض؛
'Al-jils': every elevated part of the land;
والمشهور في الحديث: معادن القبلية، بالقاف ، وهي ناحية قرب المدينة، وقيل: هي من ناحية الفرع.
And what is famous in the hadith is: the mines of Al-Qubliyyah, with a 'qaf', which is a region near Medina, and it was said: it is from the direction of Al-Fur'.
فأغرقه، ولا جلس عموج
So it drowned it, and not a tall, deep cup.
كوقب الصفا، جلسيها قد تغورا
Like the hollow of a rock, its surrounding area had become sunken.
والجلس البقية من العسل تبقى في الإناء.
And 'al-jils' is the remainder of honey left in the container.
وما جلس أبكار أطاع لسرحها ... جنى ثمر، بالواديين، وشوع
And not the honey of the first-born that obeyed its grazing ... yielding fruit, in the two valleys, and 'shū''.
وهي الضروب. وقد سمت جلاسا وجلاسا؛
