And in the Noble Qur'an: A slanderer, one who walks about spreading malicious gossip; and also: Woe to every slanderer and backbiter, and likewise a woman slanderer and backbiter.

روي عن أبي العباس في قوله تعالى: ويل لكل همزة لمزة ؛ قال: هو المشاء بالنميمة المفرق بين الجماعة المغري بين الأحبة.
It is narrated from Abu al-Abbas regarding His saying: 'Woe to every slanderer and backbiter'; he said: It is he who walks about spreading gossip, sowing discord among a group, and inciting hatred between loved ones.
وهمز الشيطان الإنسان همزا: همس في قلبه وسواسا.
And Satan's whispering to a person: he whispered temptation into his heart.
اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الشيطان الرجيم من همزه ونفثه ونفخه
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan, from his hamz (whispers), nafth (poetry), and nafkh (arrogance).
قال أبو عبيد: الموتة الجنون، قال: وإنما سماه همزا لأنه جعله من النخس والغمز.
Abu Ubaid said: Al-mawta is madness, he said: And he only called it hamz because he made it from prodding and nudging.
