And anything that does not walk, it has hopped, and it hops; and from this is the saying of the dissolute: 'He hopped in the drink,' meaning he threw the wine into his mouth with his hand as the sparrow hops.
وإنه لمقلز أي وثاب؛ أنشد ابن الأعرابي: يقلز فيها مقلز الحجول ... نعبا على شقيه كالمشكول
And indeed he is a leaper, meaning a jumper; Ibn al-A'rabi recited: 'He leaps in it, the jumper of the Hujul... croaking on his sides like the weighted one.'
والتقلز: النشاط.
And al-taqalluz: liveliness.
ورجل قلز: شديد.
And a man qalz: strong.
وجارية قلزة: شديدة.
And a girl qalzah: strong.
