Abū 'Amr: A male camel (ḍimāraz and ḍamāzir) is stout;

وأنشد: ترد شعب الجمح الجوامز ... وشعب كل باجح ضمارز

And he recited: It enters the ravine of the strong, the overwhelming... and the ravine of every joyful, stout (ḍimāraz) one.

ويقال: في خلقه ضمرزة وضمارز أي سوء وغلظ،

And it is said: In his disposition is ḍamzara and ḍimāraz, meaning badness and roughness.

واشتقه من الرجل الضرز، وهو البخيل، والميم زائدة، قال: وقياسه أن يكون رباعيا.

And he derived it from 'man (rajul) al-ḍaraz', which means stingy, and the 'm' is extra, he said: and its measure should be quadriliteral.

وناقة ضمرز أي قوية.
