فمن فتح الميم مده وخفف الزاي، وإذا كسر الميم كسر العين وثقل الزاي وقصر.

So whoever opens the Mim, he lengthens it and lightens the Zay. And when he breaks the Mim, he breaks the Ayn, stresses the Zay, and shortens it.

الجوهري: المرعزى الزغب الذي تحت شعر العنز، وهو مفعلى، لأن فعللى لم يجئ وإنما كسروا الميم إتباعا لكسرة العين، كما قالوا منخر ومنتن،

Al-Jawhari: Al-Mar'azā is the fuzz that is under the hair of the she-goat, and it is on the pattern of Maf'alā, because Fa'lalā did not occur. They only broke the Mim following the broken Ayn, as they said Mankhar and Mintan.

وكذلك المرعزاء إذا خففت مددت، وإن شددت قصرت، وإن شئت فتحت الميم،

And likewise Al-Mar'azā': if you lighten it, you lengthen it. If you stress it, you shorten it. And if you wish, you can open the Mim.

وقد تحذف الألف فتقول مرعز، وهذه ذكرها الأزهري في الرباعي.
