Anas said: The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, gave me a kunya based on an herb I used to gather, and he was known as Abu Hamzah. The herb that Anas gathered had a sting to the tongue in its taste, so the herb was named Hamzah for its effect, and Anas was given the kunya Abu Hamzah for gathering it.

والحمازة: الشدة، وقد حمز الرجل، بالضم، فهو حميز الفؤاد وحامز أي صلب الفؤاد
