And Abu Ubaidah claimed that 'al-yahira' means stones.

And 'al-yahir': lying.
وقولهم أكذب من اليهير، هو السراب.
And their saying 'more deceitful than 'al-yahir'', it is the mirage.
الليث: اليهير اللجاجة والتمادي في الأمر، تقول استيهر، وأنشد: وقلبك في اللهو مستيهر
Al-Layth: 'Al-yahir' means persistence and continuation in a matter, you say 'istayhar', and he recited: And your heart is engrossed in amusement.
قال أبو تراب: سمعت الجعفريين أنا مستوهر بالأمر مستيقن؛ السلمي: مستيهر.
Abu Turab said: I heard the Ja'faris say 'ana mustawhir bil-amr mustayqin' (I am certain of the matter); Al-Sulami: 'mustayhir'.
واليهير: دويبة أعظم من الجرذ تكون في الصحاري، واحدته يهيرة؛ وأنشد: فلاة بها اليهير شقرا كأنها ... خصى الخيل، قد شدت عليها المسامر
