والنهابير الرمال، واحدها نهبور، وهو ما أشرف منه.
And al-nahabir are the sands, their singular is nahbur, which is what is elevated from it.
إنك قد ركبت بهذه الأمة نهابير من الأمور فركبوها منك، وملت بهم فمالوا بك، اعدل أو اعتزل.
You have led this nation into severe matters, and they followed you in them; you inclined to them, and they inclined with you; be just or withdraw.
فتب، يعني بالنهابير أمورا شدادا صعبة شبهها بنهابير الرمل لأن المشي يصعب على من ركبها
So repent; by al-nahabir, he means severe and difficult matters, likening them to the sand dunes because walking becomes difficult for whoever traverses them.
ولأحملنك على نهابر إن تثب ... فيها، وإن كنت المنهت، تعطب
And I will make you traverse al-nahabir if you leap into them, and even if you are the one being led, you will perish.
يا فتى ما قتلتم غير دعبوب، ... ولا من فواره الهنبر
O young man, you killed no one but Da'bub, nor from its prime was al-hinbar.
من كسب مالا من نهاوش أنفقه في نهابر
Whoever earns money from illicit means and spends it on forbidden things.
يقول من اكتسب مالا من غير حله أنفقه في غير طريق الحق.
He means whoever acquires wealth from unlawful sources spends it not on the path of truth.
النهابر المهالك هاهنا، أي أذهبه الله في مهالك وأمور متبددة.
Al-nahabir are the perils here, meaning may Allah send him into perils and scattered affairs.
يقال: غشيت بي النهابير أي حملتني على أمور شديدة صعبة
It is said: 'I was led into al-nahabir,' meaning I was made to undertake severe and difficult matters.
ودون ما تطلبه يا عامر ... نهابر، من دونها نهابر
And beyond what you seek, O 'Amir, are perils, and beyond them are perils.
وقيل: النهابر جهنم، نعوذ بالله منها.
And it was said: al-nahabir is Hell, may Allah protect us from it.
لا تتزوجن نهبرة أي طويلة مهزولة، وقيل: هي التي أشرفت على الهلاك، من النهابر المهالك، وأصلها حبال من رمل صعبة المرتقى.
Do not marry a nahbarah, meaning a tall, emaciated one; and it was said: she is one who is close to destruction, from al-nahabir (the perils), and its origin is difficult-to-climb ridges of sand.
