Al-Asma'i said: Shu'bah asked me about this word, and I said: It is derived from the boiling of a pot, which is its boiling and bubbling.

يقال منه: نغرت القدر تنغر نغرا إذا غلت

It is said from it: The pot boiled, 'tanaghiru', with 'nagran' if it boiled.

فمعناه أنها أرادت أن جوفها يغلي من الغيظ والغيرة

So its meaning is that she wanted her insides to boil from rage and jealousy.

فقالت: أيها الأبرق في رأس الرجل عسى رأيت جريرا يجر بعيرا، فقال لها الرجل: أغيرى أنت أم نغرة؟

So she said: O mountain peak on the head of the man, perhaps you saw Jarir pulling a camel, and the man said to her: Are you jealous or angry?

فقالت له: ما أنا بالغيرى ولا النغرة، أذيب أحمالي وأرعى زبدتي

And she said to him: I am neither jealous nor angry; I melt my burdens and graze my froth.

وعندي أن النغرة هنا الغضبى لا الغيرى لقوله: أغيرى أنت أم نغرة؟

And I believe that 'naghrah' here means angry, not jealous, because of his saying: Are you jealous or angry?

ونغرت القدر تنغر نغيرا ونغرتا: غلت

And the pot boiled, 'tanaghiru', with 'nagiran' and 'naghrata': it boiled.
