ويقول أحد الرجلين لصاحبه: بيع، فيقول: نظر أي أنظرني حتى أشتري منك.
And one of the two men says to his companion: 'Sell', and he says: 'Nadhir', meaning 'Grant me respite until I buy from you.'
وتنظره أي انتظره في مهلة.
And 'tanadhuruhu' means to wait for him with a delay.
وفي حديث أنس: نظرنا النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، ذات ليلة حتى كان شطر الليل.
And in the hadith of Anas: We watched the Prophet, peace be upon him, one night until midnight.
يقال: نظرته وانتظرته إذا ارتقبت حضوره.
It is said: 'Nadhartuhu' and 'Intadhartuhu' when you await his presence.
ويقال: نظار مثل قطام كقولك: انتظر، اسم وضع موضع الأمر.
And 'Nadhdhar' like 'Qattam', as you say: 'Wait', a noun placed in the position of the command.
وأنظره: أخره.
And 'Anzhirhu': to postpone him.
قال أنظرني إلى يوم يبعثون.
He said, 'Grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected.'
والتناظر: التراوض في الأمر.
And 'Al-Tanadthur': mutual discussion of the matter.
ونظيرك: الذي يراوضك وتناظره، وناظره من المناظرة.
And your 'nazeer' (equal/match): the one who consults with you and you consult with him, and 'naazira-hu' from 'munaadhaaraha' (debating).
والنظير: المثل، وقيل: المثل في كل شيء.
And 'Al-Nazeer': the like, and it is said: the like in everything.
وفلان نظيرك أي مثلك لأنه إذا نظر إليهما الناظر رآهما سواء.
And so-and-so is your 'nazeer' (equal/match), meaning like you, because when an observer looks at them, he sees them as the same.
الجوهري: ونظير الشيء مثله.
Al-Jauhari: And the 'nazeer' of a thing is its like.
وقد كنت نحار الجزور ومعمل المطي، ... وأمضي حيث لا حي ماضيا
And I used to slaughter the camel and train the mounts, ... And I would proceed where no one else would go.
قال الفراء: يقال نظيرة قومه ونظورة قومه للذي ينظر إليه منهم، ويجمعان على نظائر، وجمع النظير نظراء، والأنثى نظيرة، والجمع النظائر في الكلام والأشياء كلها.
Al-Farra' said: It is said 'nazeeratu qawmihi' and 'nazooratu qawmihi' for the one who is looked up to among his people, and their dual is 'nazaair', and the plural of 'nazeer' is 'nuzaraa', and the feminine is 'nazeerah', and the plural of 'nazeerah' is 'nazaair' in speech and all things.
يعني سور المفصل ، سميت نظائر لاشتباه بعضها ببعض في الطول.
Meaning the chapters of Al-Mufassal, they were named 'nazaair' (similar chapters) because some of them resembled each other in length.
لم تخطئ نظارتي أي لم تخطئ فراستي.
My 'nazzaarati' (insight/foresight) did not err, meaning my intuition did not err.
والنظائر: جمع نظيرة، وهي المثل والشبه في الأشكال، الأخلاق والأفعال والأقوال.
And 'Al-Nazaair': plural of 'nazeerah', which is the like and resemblance in forms, characters, actions, and words.
لا تجعل شيئا نظيرا لكتاب الله ولا لكلام رسول الله فتدعهما وتأخذ به؛ يقول: لا تتبع قول قائل من كان وتدعهما له.
Do not make anything an equal to the Book of Allah or the speech of the Messenger of Allah, so you abandon them and take it; meaning: do not follow the saying of any speaker, whoever he may be, and abandon them for him.
ويقال: ناظرت فلانا أي صرت نظيرا له في المخاطبة.
And it is said: 'I debated so-and-so', meaning I became his equal in discourse.
ويقال للسلطان إذا بعث أمينا يستبرئ أمر جماعة قرية: بعث ناظرا.
And it is said to the ruler when he sends a trustworthy person to investigate the affairs of a village community: 'He sent an overseer'.
وعددت إبل فلان نظائر أي مثنى مثنى، وعددتها جمارا إذا عددتها وأنت تنظر إلى جماعتها.
And I counted so-and-so's camels as 'nazaair', meaning in pairs, and I counted them as 'jimaara' if you counted them while looking at their group.
والنظرة: سوء الهيئة.
And 'Al-Nadhrah': a bad appearance.
ورجل فيه نظرة أي شحوب؛ وأنشد شمر: وفي الهام منها نظرة وشنوع
And a man with 'nadhrah' in him, meaning pallor; and Shamir recited: And in the hindquarters of it is 'nadhrah' (faintness/weakness) and ugliness.
قال أبو عمرو: النظرة الشنعة والقبح.
Abu Amr said: 'Al-Nadhrah' is repulsiveness and ugliness.
ويقال: إن في هذه الجارية لنظرة إذا كانت قبيحة.
And it is said: 'Indeed, in this slave girl is 'nadhrah'' if she is ugly.
ابن الأعرابي: يقال فيه نظرة وردة أي يرتد النظر عنه من قبحه.
Ibn Al-A'rabi: It is said 'nadhrah wardah' about him, meaning the gaze turns away from him due to his ugliness.
وفيه نظرة أي قبح؛ وأنشد الرياشي: لقد رابني أن ابن جعدة بادن، ... وفي جسم ليلى نظرة وشحوب
And in him is 'nadhrah', meaning ugliness; and Al-Riyashi recited: It troubled me that Ibn Ja'dah was prominent, ... And in Layla's body is 'nadhrah' (pallor) and paleness.
إن بها نظرة فاسترقوا لها ؛ وقيل: معناه إن بها إصابة عين من نظر الجن إليها، وكذلك بها سفعة؛
Indeed, she has 'nadhrah', so seek protection for her; and it was said: its meaning is that she has been afflicted by the evil eye from the gaze of jinn towards her, and likewise she has a mark;
غير ناظرين إناه ؛ قال أهل اللغة: معناه غير منتظرين بلوغه وإدراكه.
'Ghayra nadhireena inahu'; the linguists said: its meaning is not waiting for its ripening and reaching maturity.
أن عبد الله أبا النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، مر بامرأة تنظر وتعتاف، فرأت في وجهه نورا فدعته إلى أن يستبضع منها وتعطيه مائة من الإبل فأبى ،
That Abdullah, the father of the Prophet, peace be upon him, passed by a woman who was divining and practicing sorcery, and she saw a light on his face, so she invited him to have intercourse with her and give her one hundred camels, but he refused,
قوله: تنظر أي تتكهن، وهو نظر تعلم وفراسة، وهذه المرأة هي كاظمة بنت مر، وكانت متهودة قد قرأت الكتب، وقيل: هي أخت ورقة بن نوفل.
His saying: 'tanadhuru' means she was divining, which is a look of knowledge and insight, and this woman was Kazimah bint Mar, and she was Jewish and had read the books, and it was said: she is the sister of Waraqah bin Nawfal.
والنظرة: عين الجن.
And 'Al-Nadhrah': the eye of the jinn.
والنظرة: الغشية أو الطائف من الجن، وقد نظر.
And 'Al-Nadhrah': a swoon or a passing spirit from the jinn, and one may be 'nadhur'.
ورجل فيه نظرة أي عيب.
And a man with 'nadhrah' in him, meaning a defect.
والمنظور: الذي أصابته نظرة.
And 'Al-Manzoor': he who has been afflicted by the 'nadhrah' (evil eye).
وصبي منظور: أصابته العين.
And a 'manzoor' child: the eye has struck him.
والمنظور: الذي يرجى خيره.
And 'manzoor': he whose good is hoped for.
ويقال: ما كان نظيرا لهذا ولقد أنظرته، وما كان خطيرا ولقد أخطرته.
And it is said: 'He was not a match for this, and indeed I made him a match for it', and 'He was not significant, and indeed I made him significant'.
ومنظور بن سيار: رجل.
And Manzur bin Sayyar: a man.
ومنظور: اسم جني؛ قال: ولو أن منظورا وحبة أسلما ... لنزع القذى، لم يبرئا لي قذاكما
And Manzur: the name of a jinn; he said: And if Manzur and Habba had converted... they would have removed the mote, they would not have healed my mote.
ونَاظِرَة: جبل معروف أو موضع؛ قال ابن أحمر: وصدت عن نواظر واستعنت ... قتاما، هاج عيفيا وآلا
And Nadhira: a known mountain or place; Ibn Ahmar said: And she turned away from Nawadir and I sought help... from dust, which stirred up a strong wind and a sandstorm.
وبنو النظار: قوم من عكل، وإبل نظارية: منسوبة إليهم؛ قال الراجز: يتبعن نظارية سعوما السعم: ضرب من سير الإبل.
And Banu Al-Nadhir: a tribe from 'Akl, and 'nadhariyya' camels: attributed to them; the poet said: They follow 'nadhariyya' camels with a specific gait. 'Al-Sa'm': a type of camel's gait.
