النخير: صوت الأنف.
Al-nikheer: the sound of the nose.
نخر الإنسان والحمار والفرس بأنفه ينخر وينخر نخيرا: مد الصوت والنفس في خياشيمه.
A human, donkey, or horse snorted through its nose, making a snorting sound: drawing sound and breath through its nostrils.
أإذا كنا عظاما نخرة ، وقرئ: ناخرة؛
Are we, when we become decayed bones? And it was read: 'nakhirah'.
والناخرة والنخرة سواء في المعنى بمنزلة الطامع والطمع؛
And 'nakhirah' and 'nakhrah' are the same in meaning, like 'tami'' (greedy) and 'tami'' (greed).
ويقال: نخر العظم، فهو نخر إذا بلي ورم،
And it is said: the bone decayed, and it is called 'nakhir' if it became rotten and hollow.
وقيل: ناخرة أي فارغة يجيء منها عند هبوب الريح كالنخير.
And it was said: 'nakhirah' means empty, through which wind passes making a sound like 'nikheer'.
والمنخر والمنخر والمنخر والمنخر والمنخور: الأنف؛
And al-mankhar, al-mankhar, al-mankhar, al-mankhar, and al-mankhoor: the nose.
وصواب إنشاده كما أنشده سيبويه إلى منحوره، بالحاء، والمنحور: النحر؛
And the correct recitation is as Sibawayh recited it, 'to his neck,' with the letter Haa', and al-manhur means the neck.
والمنخر ثقب الأنف، قال: وقد تكسر الميم إتباعا لكسرة الخاء، كما قالوا منتن، وهما نادران لأن مفعلا ليس من الأبنية.
And al-mankhar is the opening of the nose. He said: and the 'meem' may be broken following the kasrah of the 'khaa', as they said 'muntin', and these are rare because 'maf'al' is not among the patterns.
أنه أخذ بنخرة الصبي أي بأنفه.
That he took the boy by his nostril, meaning his nose.
والمنخران أيضا: ثقبا الأنف.
And al-mankharan also: the two openings of the nose.
فقال: للمنخرين دعاء عليه أي كبه الله لمنخريه، كقولهم: بعدا له وسحقا وكذلك لليدين والفم.
So he said: 'May God cast him down on his nostrils,' meaning 'May God cast him down on his nostrils,' like their saying: 'Far be he and crushed,' and similarly for the hands and mouth.
والنخرة: رأس الأنف.
And al-nakhrah: the tip of the nose.
وامرأة منخار: تنخر عند الجماع، كأنها مجنونة، ومن الرجال من ينخر عند الجماع حتى يسمع نخيره.
And a woman is 'minkhar': she snorts during intercourse, as if she were mad. And some men snort during intercourse until their snorting is heard.
ونخرتا الأنف: خرقاه، الواحدة نخرة، وقيل: نخرته مقدمه، وقيل: هي ما بين المنخرين، وقيل: أرنبته يكون للإنسان والشاء والناقة والفرس والحمار؛ وكذلك النخرة مثال الهمزة.
And the two nostrils of the nose: its holes, the singular is 'nakhrah'. And it was said: its front part. And it was said: it is what is between the two nostrils. And it was said: its tip, which applies to humans, sheep, camels, horses, and donkeys; and similarly 'nakhrah' like 'hamzah'.
ويقال: هشم نخرته أي أنفه.
And it is said: 'he broke his nakhrah', meaning his nose.
النخرة والنخرة، مثال الهمزة، مقدم أنف الفرس والحمار والخنزير.
Al-nakhrah and al-nakhrah, like 'hamzah', the front of the nose of a horse, donkey, and pig.
ونخر الحالب الناقة: أدخل يده في منخرها ودلكه أو ضرب أنفها لتدر؛ وناقة نخور: لا تدر إلا على ذلك.
And the milker stimulated the camel: he inserted his hand into its nostril and rubbed it or struck its nose to make it yield milk; and a 'nakhoor' camel: does not yield milk except by that means.
والتنخير: أن يدلك حالبها منخريها بإبهاميه وهي مناخة فتثور دارة.
And al-tankheer: is for its milker to rub its nostrils with his thumbs while it is being milked, so that its milk flows.
والنخور الناقة التي يهلك ولدها فلا تدر حتى تضرب أنفها، ويقال: حتى تدخل إصبعك في أنفها.
And al-nukhoor is the camel that whose offspring dies, so it does not produce milk until its nose is struck, and it is said: until you insert your finger into its nose.
ونخرت الخشبة، بالكسر، نخرا، فهي نخرة: بليت وانفتت أو استرخت تتفتت إذا مست، وكذلك العظم، يقال: عظم نخر وناخر،
And the wood rotted, with a kasrah, 'nakhran', and it is 'nakhirah': it became rotten and crumbled or became loose and crumbled when touched. And similarly the bone. It is said: a bone is 'nakhir' and 'nakhir'.
وقيل: النخرة من العظام البالية، والناخرة التي فيها بقية ، والناخر من العظام الذي تدخل الريح فيه ثم تخرج منه، ولها نخير.
And it was said: 'al-nakhrah' is from the rotten bones, and 'al-nakhirah' is that which has some remainder, and 'al-nakhir' from the bones is that into which wind enters and then exits, and it makes a snorting sound.
لما خلق الله إبليس نخر ؛ النخير: صوت الأنف.
When God created Iblis, he snorted; al-nikheer: the sound of the nose.
ونخر نخيرا: مد الصوت في خياشيمه وصوت كأنه نغمة جاءت مضطربة.
And he snorted 'nakheeran': drawing sound through his nostrils and making a sound like a disordered melody.
أتركب بغلة وأنت على أكرم ناخرة بمصر؟
Are you riding a mule while you are in charge of the most honored snorting animal in Egypt?
وقيل: ناجرة، بالجيم؛ قال المبرد: قوله الناخرة يريد الخيل، يقال للواحد ناخر وللجماعة ناخرة، كما يقال رجل حمار وبغال وللجماعة الحمارة والبغالة؛
And it was said: 'najirah', with the letter Jeem. Al-Mubarrid said: his saying 'al-nakhirah' refers to horses. One is called 'nakhir' and a group is called 'nakhirah', just as one man is called 'himar' (donkey) and 'bigal' (mules), and a group is called 'himarah' and 'bigalah'.
والناخر الحمار.
And al-nakhir is the donkey.
الفراء: هو الناخر والشاخر، نخيره من أنفه وشخيره من حلقه.
Al-Farra': it is 'al-nakhir' and 'al-shakhir'; its 'nikheer' is from its nose and its 'shakheer' is from its throat.
نخروا أي تكلموا؛ قال ابن الأثير: كذا فسر في الحديث، قال: ولعله إن كان عربيا مأخوذ من النخير الصوت، ويروى بالجيم، وقد تقدم.
They spoke; Ibn al-Athir said: Thus it was explained in the hadith. He said: And perhaps it is Arabic, derived from 'al-nikheer', the sound. And it is narrated with the letter Jeem, and it has been mentioned before.
فتناخرت بطارقته أي تكلمت وكأنه كلام مع غضب ونفور.
So she spoke to her attendants, meaning she spoke, and it was like speech with anger and aversion.
والناخر: الخنزير الضاري، وجمعه نخر.
And al-nakhir: the fierce wild boar, and its plural is 'nukhr'.
ونخرة الريح، بالضم: شدة هبوبها.
And 'nakhrah' of the wind, with a dammah: its strong blowing.
وقال أبو نصر في قول عدي بن زيد: بعد بني تبع نخاورة، ... قد اطمأنت بهم مرازبها قال: النخاورة الأشراف، واحدهم نخوار ونخوري، ويقال: هم المتكبرون.
And Abu Nasr said regarding the saying of Adi ibn Zayd: 'After the descendants of Tubba', the nobles, ... their high places were settled with them.' He said: 'Al-nakhawarah' are the nobles, their singular is 'nakhwar' and 'nakhawari', and it is said: they are the arrogant ones.
ويقال: ما بها ناخر أي ما بها أحد؛ حكاه يعقوب عن الباهلي.
And it is said: 'There is no nakhir in it', meaning 'There is no one in it'. Ya'qub narrated this from Al-Bahili.
