And from it is their saying: qanāṭīr muqanṭarah.

من قام بألف آية كتب من المقنطرين ؛ أي أعطي قنطارا من الأجر

Whoever stands (in prayer) with a thousand verses is written among the muqanṭarīn; meaning he is given a qinṭār of reward.

القنطار اثنا عشر ألف أوقية، الأوقية خير مما بين السماء والأرض

The qinṭār is twelve thousand ounces, and an ounce is better than what is between the sky and the earth.

من قرأ أربعمائة آية كتب له قنطار؛ القنطار مائة مثقال، المثقال عشرون قيراطا، القيراط مثل واحد

Whoever recites four hundred verses, a qinṭār is written for him; the qinṭār is one hundred mithqals, the mithqal is twenty carats, the carat is one mithqal.

And we do not find the Arabs knowing its weight nor having a singular form from its word; they say: it is the weight of a bull's hide of gold.

والمقنطرة: مفنعلة من لفظه أي متممة، كما قالوا ألف مؤلفة متممة

And al-muqanṭarah: is a form derived from its word, meaning completed, as they said 'alf mu'allafah' (a completed thousand).

والمقنطرة تسعة، والقناطير ثلاثة

And al-muqanṭarah is nine, and al-qanāṭīr is three.
