يقال: هو يتقعر في كلامه إذا كان يتنحى وهو لحانة، ويتعاقل وهو هلباجة.

It is said: he speaks affectedly if he deviates while being a sophist, and he pretends to be wise while being foolish.

أبو زيد: يقال ما خرج من أهل هذا القعر أحد مثله، كقولك: من أهل هذا الغائط مثل البصرة أو الكوفة.

Abu Zayd: It is said no one like him has come out from the people of this region, like your saying: from the people of this region like Basra or Kufa.

وإناء قعران: في قعره شيء.

And a container quran: there is something in its bottom.

وقصعة قعرى وقعرة: فيها ما يغطي قعرها، والجمع قعرى، واسم ذلك الشيء القعرة والقعرة.

And a woman qa'rah and qa'irah: far in desire; according to Al-Lihyani, and it was said: she is one who finds intense desire in the depth of her private part, and it was said: she is one who desires excess, and it was said: a woman qa'rah and qa'irah is a bad description in intercourse.

والقعر من النمل: التي تتخذ القريات.

And al-qara from ants: those that make small settlements.

وضربه فقعره أي صرعه.

And I struck him and felled him, meaning I threw him down.

فقال: ضربه فانعقر، وإنما هو فانقعر، وقال: في صدره حشك، والصحيح حسك، وقال: شلت يده، والصواب شلت.

So he said: he struck him and he became uprooted, but it is 'fa-nqa'ara', and he said: in his chest is a thicket, and the correct is 'hasak', and he said: his hand was paralyzed, and the correct is 'shalla'.

قعر النخلة فانقعرت هي: قطعها من أصلها فسقطت، والشجرة انجعفت من أصلها وانصرعت هي.

وفي التنزيل العزيز: كأنهم أعجاز نخل منقعر ؛ والمنقعر: المنقلع من أصله.

And in the Noble Qur'an: As if they were trunks of date palms uprooted; and al-munqa'ir: uprooted from its origin.

وقعت النخلة إذا قلعتها من أصلها حتى تسقط، وقد انقعرت هي.

And you fell the palm tree if you pull it from its roots until it falls, and it has become uprooted.

وفي الحديث: أن رجلا تقعر عن مال له ، وفي رواية: انقعر عن ماله أي انقلع من أصله.

And in the Hadith: that a man became detached from his wealth, and in another narration: he became detached from his wealth, meaning he was uprooted from his origin.

يقال: قعره إذا قلعه، يعني أنه مات عن مال له.

It is said: he felled it if he uprooted it, meaning he died leaving wealth.

وفي حديث ابن مسعود: أن عمر لقي شيطانا فصارعه فقعره أي قلعه ، وقيل: كل ما انصرع، فقد انقعر وتقعر؛ قال لبيد: وأربد فارس الهيجا، إذا ما ... تقعرت المشاجر بالفئام أي انقلبت فانصرعت، وذلك في شدة القتال عند الإنهزام.

And in the narration of Ibn Mas'ud: that Umar met a jinn and wrestled with him and felled him, meaning he uprooted him, and it is said: everything that is overthrown, has been uprooted and felled; Labid said: And Arbad, the knight of battle, when... the fighting men were overthrown by the spears, meaning they turned and were overthrown, and that was in the intensity of fighting at the time of defeat.

ابن الأعرابي: قالت الدبيرية القعر الجفنة وكذلك المعجن والشيزى والدسيعة؛ روى ذلك كله الفراء عن الدبيرية.

Ibn al-A'rabi: Al-Dubayriyyah said: Al-qara' is the large bowl, and likewise the kneading trough, the platter, and the large dish; Al-Farra' narrated all of that from Al-Dubayriyyah.

وقعت الشاة: ألقت ولدها لغير تمام؛ عن ابن الأعرابي؛ وأنشد:
