Al-ta'awur and al-i'tiwar mean that this takes the place of that, and that takes the place of this.
اعتوراه وابتداه هذا مرة وهذا مرة
This one took turns with him, and this one initiated with him once, and this one once.
عورت عن فلان ما قيل له تعويرا وعويت عنه تعوية أي كذبت عنه ما قيل له تكذيبا ورددت
You lied about what was said to so-and-so, deceiving him, and you lied about it, meaning you falsified what was said and refuted it.
وعورته عن الأمر: صرفته عنه
And I turned him away from the matter: I diverted him from it.
والأعور: الذي قد عور ولم تقض حاجته ولم يصب ما طلب وليس من عور العين
And al-a'war: he whose need was not met and who did not obtain what he sought, and it is not from the 'blindness' of the eye.
وعورته عليه أمره تعويرا أي قبحته عليه
