And it is said: it is fornication, at any time, whether with a slave woman or a free woman.
أيما رجل عاهر بحرة أو أمة ؛ أي زنى وهو فاعل منه.
Any man who commits fornication with a slave woman or a free woman; meaning he commits adultery, and he is the doer of it.
وفي التهذيب: قال أبو زيد يقال للمرأة الفاجرة عاهرة ومعاهرة ومسافحة.
And in Al-Tahdhib: Abu Zayd said, the unchaste woman is called 'aahirah', 'mu'aahirah', and 'musafihah'.
وقال أحمد بن يحيى والمبرد: هي العيهرة للفاجرة، قالا: والياء فيها زائدة، والأصل عهرة مثل ثمرة
And Ahmad bin Yahya and Al-Mubarrad said: she is 'al-'uhayrah' for the unchaste woman, they said: the 'ya' in it is extra, and the origin is 'uhrah' like 'thamrah'.
فقام لا يحفل ثم كهرا، ... ولا يبالي لو يلاقي عهرا
So he stood up, not caring, then he was rebuked, ... and he would not mind if he met fornication.
والكهر: الانتهار.
And 'al-kahar' means: to rebuke.
وفي حرف عبد الله بن مسعود: فأما اليتيم فلا تكهر.
And in the recitation of Abdullah bin Mas'ud: 'As for the orphan, do not rebuke him'.
وتعيهر الرجل إذا كان فاجرا.
And a man 'ta'ahhara' if he is unchaste.
فقال: أفة لك عهيرة تياس
So he said: 'Woe to you, you little fornicator!'
قال: العهيرة تصغير العهر، قال: والعهر والعاهر هو الزاني.
He said: 'Al-'uhayrah' is the diminutive of 'al-'ahr', he said: and 'al-'ahr' and 'al-'aahir' is the adulterer.
وحكي عن رؤبة قال: العاهر الذي يتبع الشر، زانيا كان أو فاسقا.
And it is narrated from Ru'bah who said: 'Al-'aahir' is one who pursues evil, whether he is an adulterer or a transgressor.
الولد للفراش وللعاهر الحجر ؛ العاهر: الزاني.
The child belongs to the bed (owner), and to the fornicator is the stone; 'al-'aahir' is the adulterer.
معنى قوله وللعاهر الحجر أي لا حق له في النسب ولا حظ له في الولد، وإنما هو لصاحب الفراش أي لصاحب أم الولد، وهو زوجها أو مولاها
The meaning of his saying 'and to the fornicator is the stone' is that he has no right to lineage and no share in the child; it belongs to the owner of the bed, meaning the owner of the mother of the child, who is her husband or her master.
وهو كقوله الآخر: له التراب أي لا شيء له
And it is like his other saying: 'To him is the dust', meaning he has nothing.
والاسم العهر، بالكسر. والعهر: الزنا، وكذلك العهر مثل نهر ونهر.
And the noun is 'al-'ihr', with kasra. And 'al-'ihr' is adultery, and likewise 'al-'uhr' like 'nahr' and 'nahr'.
اللهم بدله بالعهر العفة.
O Allah, replace his fornication with chastity.
والعبهيرة: التي لا تستقر في مكانها نزقا من غير عفة.
And 'al-'uhayrah' is she who does not settle in her place, being restless without chastity.
وقال كراع: امرأة عيهرة نزقة خفيفة لا تستقر في مكانها، ولم يقل من غير عفة، وقد عيهرت.
And Kraa' said: 'a woman 'uhayrah' is restless, flighty, light, who does not settle in her place', and he did not say 'without chastity', and she has 'u'ayharat'.
والعبهيرة: الغول في بعض اللغات، والذكر منها العيهران.
And 'al-'uhayrah' is the ghoul in some languages, and the male of it is 'al-'uhayran'.
وذو معاهر: قيل من أقيال حمير.
And Dhu Ma'ahir: it is said he was one of the kings of Himyar.
