والتعزير هاهنا: الإعانة والتوقير والنصر مرة بعد مرة، وأصل التعزير: المنع والرد، فكأن من نصرته قد رددت عنه أعداءه ومنعتهم من أذاه، ولهذا قيل للتأديب الذي هو دون الحد: تعزير، لأنه يمنع الجاني أن يعاود الذنب.

And al-taʿzīr here: assistance, veneration, and repeated support, and the origin of al-taʿzīr: prevention and repulsion, so it is as if by supporting him, you have repelled his enemies from him and prevented them from harming him, and for this reason, discipline which is less than the legal limit is called taʿzīr, because it prevents the offender from repeating the sin.

وعزر المرأة عزرا: نكحها.

And he had intercourse with the woman, ʿazran: he married her.

وعزره عن الشيء: منعه.

And he prevented him from the thing: he stopped him.

والعزر والعزير: ثمن الكلإ إذا حصد وبيعت مزارعه سوادية، والجمع العزائر؛

يقولون: هل أخذت عزير هذا الحصيد؟ أي هل أخذت ثمن مراعيها، لأنهم إذا حصدوا باعوا مراعيها.

والعزائر والعيازر: دون العضاه وفوق الدق كالثمام والصفراء والسخبر، وقيل: أصول ما يرعونه من سر الكلإ كالعرفج والثمام والضعة والوشيج والسخبر والطريفة والسبط، وهو سر ما يرعونه.

And al-ʿazāʾir and al-ʿayāzir: less than thorny trees and more than small plants like thumam and safra' and sakhbar, and it was said: the roots of what they graze on from the best of fodder like 'urfuj and thumam and di'ah and washij and sakhbar and tarifah and sabt, which is the best of what they graze on.

والعيزار: الصلب الشديد من كل شيء؛ عن ابن الأعرابي.

And al-ʿayzār: the strong and solid of everything; from Ibn al-A'rabi.

ومحالة عيزارة: شديدة الأسر، وقد عيزرها صاحبها؛

And a strong camel: tightly bound, and its owner has made it strong;

وفي الحديث ذكر عزور، بفتح العين وسكون الزاي وفتح الواو، ثنية الجحفة وعليها الطريق من المدينة إلى مكة، ويقال فيه عزورا.
