يقال: رجل أعجر بين العجر أي عظيم البطن.
It is said: a man is 'ajir between 'ajr, meaning large-bellied.
وعجر الرجل، بالكسر، يعجر عجرا أي غلظ وسمن.
And 'ajara the man, with kasra, ya'juru 'ajran, meaning he became thick and fat.
وتعجر بطنه: تعكن.
And his belly became distended: it became thick.
والعجرة: موضع العجر.
And the 'ajrah: the place of the 'ajr.
إلى الله أشكو عجري وبجري
To God I complain of my 'ajri and bajri
معناه همومي وأحزاني
Its meaning is my worries and my sorrows
ويقال: أفضيت إليه بعجري وبجري أي أطلعته من ثقتي به على معايبي.
And it is said: I revealed to him my 'ajri and bajri, meaning I informed him, out of my trust in him, of my flaws.
والعرب تقول: إن من الناس من أحدثه بعجري وبجري أي أحدثه بمساوي، يقال هذا في إفشاء السر.
And the Arabs say: Indeed, among people are those to whom I reveal my 'ajri and bajri, meaning I reveal my faults to them; this is said regarding the disclosure of secrets.
قال: وأصل العجر العروق المتعقدة في الجسد، والبجر العروق المتعقدة في البطن خاصة.
He said: And the origin of 'ajr is the knotted veins in the body, and 'bahr is specifically the knotted veins in the belly.
والعجرة: الشيء يجتمع في الجسد كالسلعة، والبجرة نحوها، فيراد: أخبرته بكل شيء عندي لم أستر عنه شيئا من أمري.
And the 'ajrah: is a thing that gathers in the body like a lump, and the 'bajrah is similar, meaning: I informed him of everything I had, I did not conceal anything of my affairs from him.
إن أذكره أذكر عجره وبجره
If I mention him, I mention his 'ajr and his 'bahr
المعنى إن أذكره أذكر معايبه التي لا يعرفها إلا من خبره
The meaning is: If I mention him, I mention his flaws that only one who knows him well would know.
العجر جمع عجرة، هو الشيء يجتمع في الجسد كالسلعة والعقدة، وقيل: هو خرز الظهر، قال: أرادت ظاهر أمره وباطنه وما يظهره ويخفيه.
'Al-'ajr is the plural of 'ajrah, which is a thing that gathers in the body like a lump or knot, and it is said: it is the vertebrae of the back, meaning: she intended his outward and inward affairs, and what he shows and what he hides.
والعجرة: نفخة في الظهر، فإذا كانت في السرة فهي بجرة، ثم ينقلان إلى الهموم والأحزان.
And the 'ajrah: is a swelling in the back, and if it is in the navel, it is a 'bajrah, then they are transferred to worries and sorrows.
والعجر في الظهر والبجر في البطن.
And 'ajr is in the back and 'bahr is in the belly.
وعجر الفرس يعجر إذا مد ذنبه نحو عجزه في العدو؛
And the horse 'ajara, ya'juru, if it extends its tail towards its hindquarters in a run;
وهبت مطاياهم، فمن بين عاتب، ... ومن بين مود بالبسيطة يعجر
Their mounts were given away, so among them is one who blames, ... and among them is one who is pleased, 'yajuru' (meaning perishing, extending its tail).
وعجر الفرس يعجر عجرا وعجرانا وعاجر إذا مر مرا سريعا من خوف ونحوه؛
And the horse 'ajara, ya'juru, 'ajran and 'ajuranan and 'ajara if it passed very swiftly out of fear and the like;
ويقال: فرس عاجر، وهو الذي يعجر برجليه كقماص الحمار، والمصدر العجران؛
And it is said: an 'ajir horse, which is one that 'ajiru with its legs like the leaping of a donkey, and the masdar is 'ajran;
وعجر الحمار يعجر عجرا: قمص؛
And the donkey 'ajara, ya'juru, 'ajran: it bucked;
أما الأداة ففينا ضمر صنع، ... جرد عواجر بالألباد واللجم
As for the mounts, among us are lean ones made, ... swift horses with their coverings and bridles
ومعناه عليها ألبادها ولحمها، يصفها بالسمن وهي رافعة أذنابها من نشاطها.
And its meaning is that they have their coverings and flesh, describing them as fat while they are raising their tails from their vigor.
ويقال: عجر الريق على أنيابه إذا عصب به ولزق كما يعجر الرجل بثوبه على رأسه؛
And it is said: saliva 'ajara on its teeth if it is bound to it and sticks, just as a man 'ajara with his garment on his head;
إذ لا يزال يابسا لعابه ... بالطلوان، عاجرا أنيابه
As its saliva remains dry ... with the dew, 'ajiran its teeth
والعجر: القوة مع عظم الجسد.
And 'ajr: is strength with bodily bulk.
والفحل الأعجر: الضخم.
And the 'ajir stallion: is the large one.
وعجر الفرس: صلب لحمه.
And the horse's flesh 'ajara: it became firm.
ووظيف عجر وعجر، بكسر الجيم وضمها: صلب شديد، وكذلك الحافر؛
And the 'ajr and 'ajr (with kasra and damma of the jim): is firm and strong, and so is the hoof;
سلط السنبك ذي رسغ عجر
He sent the hoof with a firm fetlock
والأعجر: كل شيء ترى فيه عقدا.
And 'ajr: is everything in which you see knots.
وكيس أعجر وهميان أعجر: وهو الممتلئ.
And an 'ajir bag and an 'ajir pouch: meaning it is full.
وبطن أعجر: ملآن، وجمعه عجر؛
And an 'ajir belly: is full, and its plural is 'ajr;
أبني زبيبة، ما لمهركم ... متخددا، وبطونكم عجر؟
O sons of Zubaybah, your colt is not... fat, and your bellies are 'ajr (full)?
والعجرة، بالضم: كل عقدة في الخشبة، وقيل: العجرة العقدة في الخشبة ونحوها أو في عروق الجسد.
And the 'ujrah, with damma: is every knot in the wood, and it is said: the 'ujrah is the knot in wood or similar, or in the veins of the body.
والخلنج في وشبه عجر، والسيف في فرنده عجر؛
And the heather has knots, and the sword in its scabbard has knots;
فأول من لاقى يجول بسيفه ... عظيم الحواشي قد شتا، وهو أعجر
So the first one he met, he brandished his sword... large-flanked, he had endured winter, and he was 'ajr (knotted/bulky).
والأعجر: الكثير العجر.
And 'ajr: is the one with much 'ajr.
وسيف ذو معجر: في متنه كالتعقيد.
And a sword with 'ma'jar: has complexity in its blade like knots.
والعجير: الذي لا يأتي النساء، يقال له عجير وعجير، وقد رويت بالزاي أيضا.
And 'ajir: is he who does not approach women, he is called 'ajir and 'ajir, and it has also been narrated with zayn.
العجير، بالراء غير معجمة، والقحول والحريك والضعيف والحصور العنين، والعجير العنين من الرجال والخيل.
'Al-'ajir, with ra' not dotted, and al-qahul, al-harik, al-da'if, and al-hasur al-'anin, and 'al-'ajir is the impotent man and horse.
والأعجر الأحدب، وهو الأفزر والأفرص والأفرس والأدن والأثبج.
And 'al-'ajr is the hunchbacked one, and he is also al-afzar, al-afras, al-afars, al-adn, and al-athbaj.
والعجار: الذي يأكل العجاجير، وهي كتل العجين تلقى على النار ثم تؤكل.
And 'al-'ajjar: is he who eats 'ajajir, which are lumps of dough thrown on fire and then eaten.
إذا قطع العجين كتلا على الخوان قبل أن يبسط فهو المشنق.
When dough is cut into lumps on the tray before it is spread, it is al-mashnaq.
والعجاجير والعجار: الصريع الذي لا يطاق جنبه في الصراع المشغزب لصريعه.
And 'al-'ajajir and 'al-'ajjar: is the fallen one whose side cannot be endured in wrestling, the one who is wrestled with.
والعجر: ليك عنق الرجل.
And 'ajr: is the stiffness of a man's neck.
عجر عنقه إلى كذا وكذا يعجره إذا كان على وجه فأراد أن يرجع عنه إلى شيء خلفه، وهو منهي عنه، أو أمرته بالشيء فعجر عنقه ولم يرد أن يذهب إليه لأمرك.
He 'ajara his neck towards such and such, meaning he bent it back if he was on a path and wanted to turn back from it to something behind him, and this is forbidden, or if you ordered him to do something and he 'ajara his neck and did not want to go to it for your command.
وعجر عنقه يعجرها عجرا: ثناها.
And he 'ajara his neck, ya'juruha, 'ajran: he bent it back.
وعجر به بعيره عجرانا: كأنه أراد أن يركب به وجها فرجع به قبل ألافه وأهله مثل عكر به؛
And he 'ajara his camel with him 'ajuranan: as if he intended to ride it in one direction and then turned it back before reaching his family, like turning it back;
فلو كنت سيفا كان أثرك عجرة، ... وكنت ددانا لا يؤيسه الصقل
If you were a sword, your mark would be an 'ajrah, ... and you would be a dull blade that polishing does not improve.
يقال عجرت عليه وحظرت عليه وحجرت عليه بمعنى واحد.
It is said: 'ajarta upon him, and hatharta upon him, and hajarta upon him mean the same thing.
وعجر عليه بالسيف أي شد عليه.
And he 'ajara upon him with the sword, meaning he attacked him fiercely.
وعجر على الرجل: ألح عليه في أخذ ماله.
And he 'ajara upon the man: he insisted on taking his money.
ورجل معجور عليه: كثر سؤاله حتى قل، كمثمود.
And a man who is ma'jur 'alayhi: his requests became numerous until they diminished, like Thamud.
جاء فلان بالعجر والبجر أي جاء بالكذب، وقيل: هو الأمر العظيم.
So-and-so came with 'ajr and 'bahr, meaning he came with lies, and it is said: it is a great matter.
وجاء بالعجاري والبجاري، وهي الدواهي.
And he came with 'al-'ajari and 'al-bajari, which are calamities.
وعجره بالعصا وبجره إذا ضربه بها فانتفخ موضع الضرب منه.
And he 'ajjarahu with the stick and 'bajjara-hu if he struck him with it, and the place of the strike swelled.
والعجاري: رؤوس العظام؛
And 'al-'ajari: are the ends of the bones;
ومن عجاريهن كل جنجن
And from their 'ajari, every strong one
والمعجر والعجار: ثوب تلفه المرأة على استدارة رأسها ثم تجلبب فوقه بجلبابها، والجمع المعاجر؛
And 'al-mi'jar and 'al-'ijar: is a garment a woman wraps around her head and then covers with her outer garment, and the plural is 'al-ma'ajir;
ومنه أخذ الاعتجار، وهو لي الثوب على الرأس من غير إدارة تحت الحنك.
And from this is derived 'al-i'tijar, which is winding the cloth on the head without tucking it under the chin.
دخل مكة يوم الفتح معتجرا بعمامة سوداء
He entered Mecca on the day of the Conquest, i'tijaran with a black turban
المعنى أنه لفها على رأسه ولم يتلّح بها؛
The meaning is that he wrapped it around his head and did not let the end hang down;
جاءت به، معتجرا ببرده، ... سفواء تردي بنسيج وحده
She brought him, i'tijaran with his cloak, ... light-maned, moving with her unique weave
والعجرة، بالكسر: نوع من العمة.
And 'ajrah, with kasra: is a type of 'amma (turban).
يقال: فلان حسن العجرة.
It is said: So-and-so has a good 'ajrah.
وجاء وهو معتجر بعمامته ما يرى وحشي منه إلا عينيه ورجليه
And he came, i'tijaran with his turban, so nothing of his body was seen except his eyes and feet
الاعتجار بالعمامة: هو أن يلفها على رأسه ويرد طرفها على وجهه ولا يعمل منها شيئا تحت ذفنه.
'Al-i'tijar with the turban: is to wrap it around one's head and let its end fall over one's face without tucking any part under the nape.
والاعتجار: لبسة كالالتحاف؛
And 'al-i'tijar: is a garment like wrapping oneself;
فما ليلى بتاشزة القصيرى، ... ولا وقصاء لبستها اعتجار
So Laila is not wearing a short garment, ... nor a tall one, wearing 'i'tijar.
والمعجر: ثوب تعتجر به المرأة أصغر من الرداء وأكبر من المقنعة.
And 'al-mi'jar: is a garment a woman wraps herself with, smaller than a rida' and larger than a miqna'ah.
والمعجر والمعاجر: ضرب من ثياب اليمن.
And 'al-mi'jar and 'al-ma'ajir: are a type of Yemeni clothing.
والمعجر: ما ينسج من الليف كالجوالق.
And 'al-mi'jar: is what is woven from palm fiber like a sack.
والعجراء: العصا التي فيها أبن؛
And 'al-'ajra': is the stick that has knots;
وقضيب ذو عجر كأنه من خيزران
And a staff with knots, as if it were made of bamboo
تلقينني يوم العجير بمنطق، ... تروح أرطى سعد منه وضالها
You meet me on the day of 'al-'ujayr with speech, ... Saad's arta and its stray branches return from it.
