And Al-Ṭāḥirah: the spring that ejects what is thrown into it due to the intensity of its water's surge from its source and the strength of its bubbling.
وقوس طحور ومطحر،
And a far-shooting and misaimed bow,
إذا رمت بسهمها صعدا فلم تقصد الرمية،
if it shoots its arrow upwards without intending the shot,
وقيل: هي التي تبعد السهم؛
and it was said: it is that which sends the arrow far;
وروضا من السراء طحورا
and a swift movement from the belly.
شرقات بالسم من صلبي، ... وركوضا من السراء طحورا
Poisonous darts from my loins, ... and a swift movement from the belly.
والمطحر، بكسر الميم، السهم البعيد الذهاب.
And Al-Miṭḥar, with a kasra on the mim, is the arrow that goes far.
وسهم مطحر. يبعد إذا رمى؛
And a misaimed arrow. It goes far when shot;
فرمى فأنفذ صاعديا مطحرا ... بالكشح، فاشتملت عليه الأضلع
So he shot and sent forth an upward-shooting, far-going arrow ... through the flank, and the ribs enclosed it.
وقال أبو حنيفة: أطحر سهمه فصه جدا، وأنشد بيت أبي ذؤيب: صاعديا مطحرا، بالضم.
And Abu Hanifa said: He shot his arrow very far, and he recited the verse of Abu Dhu'ayb: an upward-shooting, far-going arrow, with a damma.
وقيل المطحر من السهام الذي قد ألزق قذذه.
And it was said that Al-Muṭḥar of arrows is that whose fletching has been attached.
فإنك تطحرها أي تبعدها وتقصيها،
for you are pushing it away, meaning you are making it distant and remote,
وقيل: أراد تدحرها، فقلب الدال طاء، وهو بمعناه.
and it was said: he intended 'tadḥaruhā' (to push away), so he inverted the dāl to a ṭā', and it has the same meaning.
وقدح مطحر إذا كان يسرع خروجه فائزا؛
And a cup is fast-moving if its contents quickly emerge successfully;
فشذب عنه النسع ثم غدا به ... محلى من اللائي يفدين مطحرا
Then he trimmed the straps from it, then he went with it ... adorned by those who ransom a fast-moving one.
وقناة مطحرة: ملتوية في الثقاف وثابة.
And a canal is ṭaḥarah: twisted in its shaping and springing.
القناة إذا التوت في الثقاف فوثبت، فهي مطحرة.
The canal, if it twists in its shaping and springs, then it is ṭaḥarah.
ختن الخاتن الصبي فأطحر قلفته إذا استأصلها.
The circumciser circumcised the boy and extirpated his foreskin if he removed it completely.
وقال أبو زيد، اختن هذا الغلام ولا تطحر أي لا تستأصل.
And Abu Zayd said, 'Circumcise this boy and do not extirpate, meaning do not remove completely.'
يقال طحره طحرا، وهو أن يبلغ بالشيء أقصاه.
It is said, 'He ṭaḥarah ṭaḥran,' which is to take something to its extreme limit.
وطحرت الريح السحاب تطحره طحرا، وهي طحور: فرقته في أقطار السماء.
And the wind scattered the clouds, dispersing them, and it is ṭaḥūr: it separated them in the regions of the sky.
ما في السماء طحرة ولا غياية،
There is not in the sky a cloud fragment or darkness,
ما في السماء طحرة وطخرة، بالحاء والخاء، أي شيء من غيم.
There is not in the sky a ṭaḥrah and a ṭakhrāh, with ḥā and khā, meaning any amount of cloud.
والطحرور، بالحاء والخاء، اللطخ من السحاب القليل؛
And Al-Ṭaḥrūr, with ḥā and khā, is the small patch of little cloud;
وقال الأصمعي: هي قطع مستدقة رقاق.
And Al-Asma'i said: they are thin, fine pieces.
ويقال: ما في السماء طحرة وطخرة، وقد يحرك لمكان حرف الحلق؛
And it is said: 'There is not in the sky a ṭaḥrah and a ṭakhrāh,' and it may be vocalized with a haraka due to the throat letter;
وطحرورة وطخرورة، بالحاء والخاء.
And ṭaḥrūrah and ṭakhrūrah, with ḥā and khā.
والطحر والطحار النفس العالي،
And Al-Ṭaḥr and Al-Ṭaḥār is the high breath,
والطحير النفس العالي؛
And Al-Ṭaḥīr is the high breath;
طحر يطحر طحيرا، وقيده الجوهري يطحر، بالكسر، وقيل: هو الزحر عند المسلة.
ṭaḥara yuṭḥiru ṭaḥīran, and Al-Jawhari restricted it to yuṭḥiru, with a kasra, and it was said: it is the straining at the needle.
فسمعنا لها طحيرا ؛
So we heard a high breath from her;
هو النفس العالي.
it is the high breath.
وما في النحي طحرة أي شيء.
And there is not in the waterskin any amount of water.
وما على العريان طحرة أي ثوب.
And there is not on the naked person any garment.
ما عليه طحور أي ما عليه ثوب.
He has no ṭaḥūr, meaning he has no garment.
وكذلك ما عليه طحرور.
And likewise, he has no ṭaḥrūr.
وما على فلان طحرة إذا كان عاريا.
And so-and-so has no ṭaḥrah if he is naked.
وطحربة مثل طحرية، بالباء والياء جميعا.
And ṭaḥrabah is like ṭaḥriyah, with both bā' and yā'.
وما على الإبل طحرة أي شيء من وبر إذا نسلت أوبارها.
And there is not on the camels any amount of wool if their wool has fallen out.
والطحرور: السحابة.
And Al-Ṭaḥrūr: the cloud.
والطحارير: قطع السحاب المتفرقة، واحدتها طحرورة؛
And Al-Ṭaḥārīr: scattered pieces of cloud, the singular of which is ṭaḥrūrah;
وهي الطحارير والطخارير لقزع السحاب.
And they are Al-Ṭaḥārīr and Al-Ṭakhārīr for the scattered clouds.
والطحور السريع.
And Al-Ṭaḥūr is the swift.
وحرب مطحرة: زبون.
And a war that repels: a defender.
