It is said: 'The people fell into 'Umm Ṣabūr', meaning a confusing, severe matter with no escape, like this plateau that has no passage.

وأم صبار وأم صبور، كلتاهما: الداهية والحرب الشديدة.

And 'Umm Ṣabbār' and 'Umm Ṣabūr', both: the calamity and the severe war.

أصبر الرجل: وقع في أم صبور، وهي الداهية، وكذلك إذا وقع في أم صبار، وهي الحرة.

A man 'aṣbara': he fell into 'Umm Ṣabūr', which is the calamity, and likewise if he fell into 'Umm Ṣabbār', which is the 'ḥarrah'.

وأصبر الرجل إذا جلس على الصبير، وهو الجبل.

And a man 'aṣbara' if he sat on 'aṣ-ṣabīr', which is the mountain.

And 'aṣ-ṣabbārah': the stopper of the bottle.

والصبر: عصارة شجر مر، واحدته صبرة وجمعه صبور

And 'aṣ-ṣabr': sap of a bitter tree, its singular is 'ṣabrah' and its plural is 'ṣabūr'.

يا ابن الخلية، إن حربي مرة، فيها مذاقة حنظل وصبور

O son of al-Khulayyah, my war is bitter, it has the taste of colocynth and 'ṣabr'.
