Shanara 'alayhi: he criticized him.

شنرت الرجل تشنيرا إذا سمعت به وفضحته
You disgraced a man by exposing him if you made his bad reputation known.
وشترت به تشتيرا إذا أسمعته القبيح
And you shatarta him by exposing him if you made him hear the ugly (things).
وأنكر شمر هذا الحرف وقال إنما هو شنرت، بالنون، وأنشد
And Shimr denied this letter and said it is only 'shanartu', with the noon, and he recited:
وباتت توقي الروح، وهي حريصة ... عليه، ولكن تتقي أن تشنرا
And she spent the night avoiding the soul, while eager... for it, but she feared being disgraced.
جعله من الشنار وهو العيب
He made it from 'al-shanar', which is defect.
والشنار: الأمر المشهور بالقبح والشنعة
And 'al-shanar': the matter famous for ugliness and offensiveness.
امرأة منشورة ومشنورة إذا كانت سخية كريمة
A woman is manshurah and mashnurah if she is generous and noble.
الشمرة مشية العيار، والشنرة مشية الرجل الصالح المشمر
Al-shamrah is the gait of the boastful, and al-shanarah is the gait of the righteous, diligent man.
