And in the hadith of Al-Sha'bi: They did not set a time for the shafar, meaning they did not obligate a fixed amount for it.

وفي المثل: أراك بشر ما أحار مشفر أي أغناك الظاهر عن سؤال الباطن، وأصله في البعير
And in the proverb: I see you with the worst mishfar, meaning the apparent suffices you from asking about the hidden, and its origin is with the camel.

وفي الحديث: أن أعرابيا قال: يا رسول الله، إن النقبة قد تكون بمشفر البعير في الإبل العظيمة فتجرب كلها، قال: فما أجرب الأول؟
And in the hadith: An Arab said: O Messenger of Allah, a blemish may be on the mishfar of a camel among great camels, and it is all tested. He said: What about the first one?
شفير الوادي: حد حرفه، وكذلك شفير جهنم، نعوذ بالله منها
The shafir of the valley: its edge, and likewise the shafir of hell, may Allah protect us from it.
وفي حديث ابن عمر: حتى وقفوا على شفير جهنم أي جانبها وحرفها
And in the hadith of Ibn Umar: Until they stood on the brink of hell, meaning its side and edge.
وشفيره كل شيء حرفه، وحرف كل شيء شفره وشفيره كالوادي ونحوه
And the shafir of everything is its edge, and the edge of everything is its shafar and shafir, like a valley and the like.
فأما ما أنشده ابن الأعرابي من قوله: بزرقاوين لم تحرف، ولما ... يصبها غائر بشفير مأق
As for what Ibn Al-A'rabi recited from his saying: With two blue eyes, not distorted, and not yet... a deep wound has struck the shafir of the eye.
وشفر المال: قل وذهب؛ عن ابن الأعرابي، وأنشد لشاعر يذكر نسوة: مولعات بهات هات، فإن ... شفر مال، أردن منك انخلاعا
And shafar of wealth: it became scarce and went away; from Ibn Al-A'rabi, and he recited for a poet mentioning women: They are fond of 'haat haat', so if... wealth becomes scarce, they desire to detach from you.
وعيش مشفر: قليل ضيق؛ وقال الشاعر: قد شفرت نفقات القوم بعدكم، ... فأصبحوا ليس فيهم غير ملهوف
And a mushaffar life: little and narrow; and the poet said: The expenditures of the people have become scarce after you, ... so they became such that among them there is no one but a distressed person.

And a shaffari jerboa: large-eared, and it was said: it is the long-eared one with bare paws that cannot be caught quickly, and it was said: it is the long-limbed one with soft flesh and much fat; he said: And I hunt all the jerboas: ... their shaffari and the Tadmuri who is covered in paws.
والمشفر: أرض من بلاد عدي وتيم؛ قال الراعي: فلما هبطن المشفر العود عرست، ... بحيث التقت أجراعه ومشارفه
And Al-Mishfar: land from the country of Adi and Taym; Al-Rai said: When they descended to the old Mishfar, they camped, ... where their ravines and their high grounds met.
ويروى: مشفر العود، وهو أيضا اسم أرض
And it is narrated: Mishfar Al-Aud, and it is also a name of land.
وفي حديث كرز الفهري: لما أغار على سرح المدينة كان يرعى بشفر ؛ هو بضم الشين وفتح الفاء، جبل بالمدينة يهبط إلى العقيق
And in the hadith of Karaz Al-Fahri: When he raided the herds of Medina, it was grazing at Shafar; it is with damma on the shin and fatha on the fa, a mountain in Medina that descends to Al-Aqiq.
وفي المثل: أعدى من الشنفرى، وكان من العدائين
