وفِي الحَدِيثِ فِي ذِكْرِ النَّارِ: سَمَّاهَا سَقَر؛ هُوَ اسْمٌ أَعْجَمِيٌّ عَلَمٌ لِنَارِ الآخِرَةِ
And in the Hadith, in the mention of the Fire: He named it Saqar; it is a foreign proper noun for the fire of the Hereafter.
قَالَ اللَّيْثُ: سَقَرُ اسْمٌ مَعْرِفَةٌ لِلنَّارِ، نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ سَقَر
Al-Layth said: Saqar is a definite noun for the Fire; we seek refuge with Allah from Saqar.
وهَكَذَا قُرِئَ: مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَر؛ غَيْرُ مُنْصَرِفٍ لِأَنَّهُ مَعْرِفَةٌ
And thus it was recited: 'What has led you into Saqar'; it is indeclinable because it is a proper noun.
أَحَدُهُمَا أَنَّ نَارَ الآخِرَةِ سُمِّيَتْ سَقَرٌ لَا يُعْرَفُ لَهُ اشْتِقَاقٌ ومَنَعَ الإِجْرَاءَ التَّعْرِيفُ والعُجْمَةُ
One of them is that the fire of the Hereafter was named Saqar, for which no derivation is known, and its indeclinability is due to its proper noun status and foreign origin.
وَقِيلَ: سُمِّيَتِ النَّارُ سَقَرٌ لِأَنَّهَا تُذِيبُ الأَجْسَامَ والأَرْوَاحَ، والاسْمُ عَرَبِيٌّ مِنْ قَوْلِهِمْ سَقَرَتْهُ الشَّمْسُ أَيْ أَذَابَتْهُ
And it was said: the Fire was named Saqar because it melts bodies and souls, and the name is Arabic from their saying 'saqarathu ash-shamsu', meaning it melted it.
وأَصَابَهُ مِنْهَا سَاقُورٌ
And he was afflicted by it with 'sāqūr'.
والسَّاقُورُ أَيْضًا: حَدِيدَةٌ تُحَمَّى وَيُكْوَى بِهَا الحِمَارُ
And 'as-sāqūr' also: an iron rod that is heated and used to brand a donkey.
والسَّقَّارُ: اللَّعَّانُ الكَافِرُ، بالسِّينِ والصَّادِ
And 'as-saqqār': the cursing infidel, with Sīn and Ṣād.
الصَّقَّارُ النَّمَّامُ
The 'ṣaqqār' is the slanderer.
لَا يَسْكُنُ مَكَّةَ سَاقُورٌ ولَا مَشَّاءٌ بِنَمِيمٍ
No one who inflicts harm (sāqūr) or a slanderer shall inhabit Mecca.
وهُوَ ضَرْبُكَ الصَّخْرَةَ بالصَّاقُورِ، وهُوَ المِعْوَلُ
And it is like striking a rock with a pickaxe, which is the 'ṣāqūr'.
وجَاءَ ذِكْرُ السَّقَّارِينَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ وجَاءَ تَفْسِيرُهُ فِي الحَدِيثِ أَنَّهُمُ الكَذَّابُونَ
And the 'saqqārūn' were mentioned in another Hadith, and its explanation came in the Hadith that they are the liars.
قِيلَ: سُمُّوا بِهِ لِخُبْثِ مَا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ
It was said: they were named so because of the evil of what they speak.
وتَظْهَرُ فِيهِمُ السِّقَارَةُ، قَالُوا: ومَا السِّقَارَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ: بُشْرٌ يَكُونُونَ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ يَكُونُ تَحِيَّتُهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ إِذَا تَلَاقَوْا التَّلَاعُنُ
And 'as-siqārah' appears among them. They asked: And what is 'as-siqārah', O Messenger of Allah? He said: Evils that will be in the end times; their greeting among themselves when they meet will be mutual cursing.
وفِي رِوَايَةٍ: يَظْهَرُ فِيهِمُ السَّقَّارُونَ
And in another narration: 'as-saqqārūn' will appear among them.
