Ad-daghr is pressing the throat with a finger, and that is when the child is afflicted with al-'udrah, which is a pain that arises in the throat from blood, so the woman inserts her finger and lifts that spot and presses it.
فإذا رفعت ذلك الموضع بأصبعها قيل: دغرت تدغر دغرا
And when she lifts that spot with her finger, it is said: she pressed, she presses, with pressing.
علام تدغرن أولادكن بهذه العلق؟
Why do you press your children's throats with these leeches?
والدغر: توثب المختلس ودفعه نفسه على المتاع ليختلسه
And ad-daghr is the leap of the thief and his pushing himself onto the goods to snatch them.
لا قطع في الدغرة ، وهي الخلسة
There is no cutting off (punishment) for ad-daghrah, which is snatching.
وهو أن يملأ يده من الشيء يستلبه
It is when he fills his hand with something and steals it.
وفي خلقه دغر أي تخلف
And in his character there is daghr, meaning backwardness.
كأنه استسلام
As if it were submission.
وما تخلف من أخلاقه دغر
And what remained of his character was backwardness.
والدغر: سوء غذاء الولد وأن ترضعه أمه فلا ترويه فيبقى مستجيعا يعترض كل من لقي فيأكل ويمص
And ad-daghr is the poor feeding of the child, where his mother nurses him but does not satisfy him, so he remains hungry, attacking whomever he meets to eat and suck.
وهو عذاب الصبي
And this is the torment of the child.
الدغر في الفصيل أن لا ترويه أمه فيدغر في ضرع غيرها
Ad-daghr in a young camel is that its mother does not satisfy it, so it seeks milk from others.
لا تعذبن أولادكن بالدغر ولكن أروينهم لئلا يدغروا في كل ساعة ويستجيعوا
Do not torment your children with ad-daghr, but rather satisfy them so they do not seek milk constantly and remain hungry.
والدغر: الوجور
And ad-daghr is al-wajūr (gorging).
