فإنها سريعة الدثور ؛

سريعة الدثور يعني دروس ذكر الله وامحاءه منها،
quick to become obsolete means the fading and erasure of the remembrance of God from them,
اجلوها واغسلوا الرين والطبع الذي علاها بذكر الله.
polish them and wash off the rust and the seal that has covered them with the remembrance of God.
ودثور النفوس: سرعة نسيانها،
And the obsolescence of souls: their quickness to forget,
تقول للمنزل وغيره إذا عفا ودرس: قد دثر دثورا؛
You say of a dwelling and other things when they become desolate and worn out: it has become obsolete, through obsolescence;
أشاقتك أخلاق الرسوم الدواثر
Have the traces of the ancient, worn-out ruins stirred your longing?
ودثر الرجل إذا علته كبرة واستسنان.
And a man becomes obsolete when old age and senility overcome him.
وقد دثر دثورا إذا اتسخ.
And it has become obsolete through obsolescence when it became dirty.
ودثر السيف إذا صدئ.
And the sword becomes obsolete when it rusts.
وهو البعيد العهد بالصقال؛
And it is one whose polishing is long past;
اجلوها واغسلوا عنها الدثر والطبع بذكر الله تعالى
polish them and wash off the grime and the seal from them with the remembrance of God Almighty
كما يحادث السيف إذا صقل وجلي؛
just as a sword is polished and cleaned;
كمثل السيف حودث بالصقال
Like a sword that was polished.
أن القلب يدثر كما يدثر السيف فجلاؤه ذكر الله
that the heart becomes obsolete just as the sword becomes obsolete, and its polishing is the remembrance of God
يصدأ كما يصدأ السيف،
it rusts just as the sword rusts,
وهو أن تهب الرياح على المنزل فتغشي رسومه الرمل وتغطيها بالتراب.
which is when the winds blow upon a dwelling, covering its traces with sand and burying them with dust.
دثر مكان البيت فلم يحجه هود، عليه السلام.
The place of the House became obsolete, so Hud, peace be upon him, did not perform pilgrimage to it.
ودثر الطائر تدثيرا: أصلح عشه.
And the bird repaired its nest through repair.
وتدثر بالثوب: اشتمل به داخلا فيه.
And he wrapped himself in the garment: he enveloped himself in it, entering within it.
والدثار: ما يتدثر به، وقيل: هو ما فوق الشعار.
And al-dithār: what one wraps oneself with, and it was said: it is what is above the inner garment.
الدثار كل ما كان فوق الثياب من الشعار.
Al-dithār is everything that is above the clothes from the inner garment.
وقد تدثر أي تلفف في الدثار.
And he wrapped himself, meaning he enveloped himself in the outer garment.
أنتم الشعار والناس الدثار ؛
You are the inner garment, and the people are the outer garment;
يعني أنتم الخاصة والناس العامة.
meaning you are the elite and the people are the general public.
ورجل دثور: متدثر؛
And a duthūr man: one who is wrapped up;
إذا نام الدثور المسالم؟
when the peaceful, wrapped-up person sleeps?
والدثار: الثوب الذي يستدفأ به من فوق الشعار.
And al-dithār: the garment with which one warms oneself from above the inner garment.
تدثر فلان بالدثار تدثرا وادثر ادثارا، فهو مدثر،
So-and-so wrapped himself in the outer garment, wrapping himself, and he wrapped himself, and he is wrapped,
يا أيها المدثر ؛
O you who is wrapped up;
يعني المتدثر بثيابه إذا نام.
meaning the one wrapped in his clothes when he sleeps.
كان إذا نزل عليه الوحي يقول دثروني دثروني ؛
When revelation came down to him, he would say, 'Cover me, cover me!'
أي غطوني بما أدفأ به.
meaning cover me with what will warm me.
والدثور: الكسلان؛
And al-duthūr: the lazy one;
والدثور أيضا: الخامل النؤوم.

إذا ساقها الراعي الدثور حسبتها ... ركاب عراقي، مواقير تدفع
When the slow-moving shepherd drives them, you would think them ... Iraqi riders, pushing heavily.
الدثور: البطيء الثقيل الذي لا يكاد يبرح مكانه.
Al-duthūr: the slow, heavy one who hardly leaves his place.
ودثر الشجر: أورق وتشعبت خطرته.
And the trees became leafy: they sprouted leaves and their branches spread out.
لا أعرفه إلا دثارا.
I do not know it except as dithār.
وتدثر فرسه: وثب عليها فركبها،
And he mounted his horse: he leaped upon it and rode it,
ركبها وجال في متنها،
he rode it and galloped on its back,
أصاخت له فدر اليمامة، بعد ما ... تدثرها من وبله ما تدثرا
The Fadr of Yamamah listened to it, after ... its abundant rain had drenched it.
وتدثر الفحل الناقة أي تسنمها.
And the stallion mounted the she-camel, meaning he mounted her.
