A mouse came and began to drag the wick, brought it, and threw it between the hands of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, onto the khimra upon which he was sitting, and it burned a spot the size of a dirham on it.
وقيل العجين اختمر لأن فطورته قد غطاها الخمر، وهو الاختمار
And it is said that dough has fermented (ikhtamara) because its leavening agent has covered it, and that is ikhtimar.
ويقال: قد خمرت العجين وأخمرته وفطرته وأفطرته
And it is said: 'I have fermented the dough' (khammartu al-'ajeen) and 'akhmartuhu, and faṭṭartuhu, and afṭartuhu.
وسمي الخمر خمرا لأنه يغطي العقل
And wine is called khamr because it covers the intellect.
ويقال لكل ما يستر من شجر أو غيره: خمر، وما ستره من شجر خاصة، فهو الضراء
And everything that covers, whether from trees or otherwise, is called khamr, and what is specifically covered by trees is called al-ḍirrā'.
والخمرة: الورس وأشياء من الطيب تطلي به المرأة وجهها ليحسن لونها، وقد تخمرت
And al-khimra is: saffron (ورس) and things of perfume that a woman applies to her face to improve its color, and she has become perfumed (takhammarat).

And istakhamara a man: means he enslaved him.
من استخمر قوما أولهم أحرار وجيران مستضعفون فله ما قصر في بيته
Whoever enslaves a people, whose first members were free, and vulnerable neighbors, then he owns what he has kept in his house.
يقول: أخذهم قهرا وتملك عليهم، يقول: فما وهب الملك من هؤلاء لرجل فقصره الرجل في بيته أي احتبسه واختاره واستجراه في خدمته حتى جاء الإسلام وهو عنده عبد فهو له
He says: 'He took them by force and ruled over them.' He says: 'So whatever the ruler granted from these to a man, and the man kept it in his house, meaning he detained it, chose it, and kept it in his service until Islam came, and it was with him as a slave, then it belongs to him.'
المخامرة أن يبيع الرجل غلاما حرا على أنه عبده
Al-mukhamara is when a man sells a free boy as if he were his slave.
أخمره الشيء: أعطاه إياه أو ملكه
Akhmara a thing: means to give it to him or grant him ownership of it.
يقول الرجل: أخمرني كذا وكذا أي أعطنيه هبة لي، ملكني إياه
A man says: 'Akhmirni such and such,' meaning 'Give it to me as a gift, grant me ownership of it.'
وأخمر الشيء: أغفله
And akhmara a thing: means to neglect it.
واليخمور: الأجوف المضطرب من كل شيء
And al-yakhmuur: the hollow, unstable thing of everything.
واليخمور أيضا: الودع، واحدته يخمورة
