And the first night of the month is called: a ḥurrah night, and the last night: shaybā'.
وباتت فلانة بليلة حرة إذا لم تقتض ليلة زفافها ولم يقدر بعلها على اقتضاضها
And so-and-so spent the night with a ḥurrah night if she did not consummate her marriage on her wedding night and her husband could not consummate it.
شمس موانع كل ليلة حرة، يخلفن ظن الفاحش المغيار
Shining, preventing every ḥurrah night, they disappoint the expectation of the lewd and envious.
وسحابة حرة: بكر يصفها بكثرة المطر
And a ḥurrah cloud: a virgin, described by its abundance of rain.
وناقة حرة وسحابة حرة أي كثيرة المطر
And a ḥurrah she-camel and a ḥurrah cloud, meaning abundant with rain.
جادت عليها كل بكر حرة، فتركن كل قرارة كالدرهم
Every virgin ḥurrah cloud rained upon it, leaving every pool like a dirham.
وأحرار البقول: ما أكل غير مطبوخ، واحدها حر
And aḥrār al-buqūl: what is eaten uncooked, its singular is ḥurr.
جلا الحزن عن حر الوجوه فأسفرت، وكان عليها هبوة لا تبلج

He slapped a slave girl's face and said to him: Are you incapable except of her face's prominent part?
