And it is taken from the rear strap of a beast which is placed under its tail.
كأن أسكتيها قد أثفرتا بريشتي حمامة.
As if her two cheekbones had been adorned with the feathers of a dove.
والمثفار من الدواب: التي ترمي بسرجها إلى مؤخرها.
And the 'al-mithfar' among beasts is one whose saddle slips towards its rear.
وهو أن يدخل الإنسان إزاره بين فخذيه ملويا ثم يخرجه.
It is for a person to tuck their lower garment between their thighs, twisting it, and then bringing it out.
والرجل يستثفر بإزاره عند الصراع إذا هو لواه على فخذيه ثم أخرجه بين فخذيه فشد طرفيه في حجزته.
And a man binds himself with his garment during a wrestling match if he twists it around his thighs and then brings it out between his thighs, securing its ends to his waist.
واستثفر الكلب إذا أدخل ذنبه بين فخذيه حتى يلزقه ببطنه، وهو الاستثفار
And a dog tucks its tail when it inserts its tail between its thighs until it presses it against its belly, and this is 'al-istithfar'.
فإذا نحن برجال طوال كأنهم الرماح مستثفرين ثيابهم
And behold, we were with tall men, as if they were spears, tucking their garments.
هو أن يدخل الرجل ثوبه بين رجليه كما يفعل الكلب بذنبه.
It is for a man to tuck his garment between his legs as a dog does with its tail.
والثفر والثفر، بسكون الفاء أيضا، لجميع ضروب السباع ولكل ذات مخلب كالحياء للناقة
And 'ath-thafar' and 'ath-thifr', with a sukoon on the faa also, refers to all kinds of wild beasts and every clawed animal, like the vulva ('al-hiyaa') of a she-camel.
وقيل: هو مسلك القضيب فيها
And it was said: it is the passage of the penis into it.
وفروة ثفر الثورة المتضاجم
And Furwah's vulva of the leaning wild ass.
بريذينة بل البراذين ثفرها،
A mule, rather the mules are its vulva,
وما عمرو إلا نعجة ساجسية، تخزل تحت الكبش، والثفر وارد ساجسية:
And 'Amr is nothing but a Sijisian ewe, that teases under the ram, and 'ath-thafar' is from the Sijisian origin:
جاءت بنا من ثفرها المنجاب
She brought us forth from her expansive vulva.
ورجل مثفر ومثفار: ثناء قبيح ونعت سوء، وزاد في المحكم: وهو الذي يؤتى.
And a man 'muthaffar' and 'mithfar' is a reprehensible praise and a bad description, and it was added in Al-Muhkam: he is one who is approached (sexually).
