ثَبَرَهُ يَثْبُرُهُ ثَبْرًا وَثَبْرَةً، كِلَاهُمَا: حَبَسَهُ
He detained him, he detains him, with thabran and thabrata, both meaning: he detained him.
وَثَبَرَهُ عَلَى الأَمْرِ يَثْبُرُهُ: صَرَفَهُ
And he diverted him from the matter, he diverts him: meaning he turned him away.
وَالمُثَابَرَةُ عَلَى الأَمْرِ: المُوَاطَبَةُ عَلَيْهِ
And perseverance in a matter: means adhering to it.
مِنْ حَدِيثٍ: مَنْ ثَابَرَ عَلَى ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مِنَ السَّنَةِ
From a hadith: Whoever perseveres in twelve units of voluntary prayer.
أَبُو زَيْدٍ: ثَبَّرْتُ فُلَانًا عَنِ الشَّيْءِ أُثْبِرُهُ رَدَدْتُهُ عَنْهُ
Abu Zayd said: I deterred so-and-so from the thing, I deter him: meaning I turned him back from it.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُوسَى: أَتَدْرِي مَا ثَبَّرَ النَّاسَ ؟ أَيْ مَا الَّذِي صَدَّهُمْ وَمَنَعَهُمْ مِنْ طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ، وَقِيلَ: مَا أَبْطَأَ بِهِمْ عَنْهَا
And in the hadith of Abu Musa: Do you know what deterred the people? Meaning, what prevented them and stopped them from obeying Allah, and it was said: What delayed them from it.
وَقَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِنِّي لَأَظُنُّكَ يَا فِرْعَوْنُ مَثْبُورًا
And His saying, the Almighty: And indeed, I think, O Pharaoh, you are ruined.
قَالَ الْفَرَّاءُ: أَيْ مَغْلُوبًا مَمْنُوعًا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ
Al-Farra' said: Meaning defeated, prevented from good.
ابْنُ الأَعْرَابِيِّ: المَثْبُورُ المَلْعُونُ المَطْرُودُ المُعَذَّبُ
Ibn Al-A'rabi: The ruined one is the cursed, the banished, the tormented one.
وَالعَرَبُ تَقُولُ: مَا ثَبَّرَكَ عَنْ هَذَا أَيْ مَا مَنَعَكَ مِنْهُ وَمَا صَرَفَكَ عَنْهُ؟
And the Arabs say: What deterred you from this? Meaning, what prevented you from it and what turned you away from it?
وَقَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ: مَثْبُورًا أَيْ هَالِكًا
And Mujahid said: Ruined, meaning perishing.
وَقَالَ قَتَادَةُ فِي قَوْلِهِ: هُنَالِكَ ثُبُورًا ؛ قَالَ: وَيْلًا وَهَلَاكًا
And Qatadah said regarding His saying: 'Therein will be [their cry of] ruin!' He said: Woe and destruction.
وَمَثَلُ العَرَبِ: إِلَى أُمِّهِ يَأْوِي مِنْ ثَبْرٍ أَيْ مِنْ أَهْلَكٍ
And the example of the Arabs: He returns to his mother for refuge from destruction, meaning from his family.
وَالثُّبُورُ: الهَلَاكُ وَالخُسْرَانُ وَالْوَيْلُ
And destruction: is ruin, loss, and woe.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ الدُّعَاءِ: أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ دَعْوَةِ الثُّبُورِ ؛ هُوَ الهَلَاكُ
And in the hadith of supplication: I seek refuge in You from the call of destruction; it is ruin.
وَقَدْ ثَبِرَ يَثْبِرُ ثُبُورًا
And he perished, he perishes, with perishing.
وَثَبَرَهُ اللهُ: أَهْلَكَهُ إِهْلَاكًا لَا يَنْتَعِشُ
And Allah destroyed him: He destroyed him with a destruction from which there is no recovery.
فَمِنْ هُنَالِكَ يَدْعُو أَهْلُ النَّارِ: وَاثُبُورَاهْ فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ: لَا تَدْعُوا الْيَوْمَ ثُبُورًا وَاحِدًا وَادْعُوا ثُبُورًا كَثِيرًا
From there the people of the Fire will call: 'Oh, our ruin!' And it will be said to them: 'Do not call today for one ruin, but call for much ruin.'
وَكَأَنَّهُمْ دَعَوْا بِمَا فَعَلُوا كَمَا يَقُولُ الرَّجُلُ: وَا نَدَامَتَاهْ
And it is as if they called out for the consequence of their deeds, like a man saying: 'Oh, my regret!'
And Al-Zajjaj said regarding His saying: 'They will call therein 'Woe!' meaning ruin, and it is in the accusative case as a verbal noun, as if they said 'We have been ruined, ruin.' Then He said to them: 'Do not call today for ruin,' it is a verbal noun, so it applies to the few and the many with a single form.
وَفِي حَدِيثٍ: أَنَّهُمْ وَجَدُوا النَّاقَةَ المُنتِجَةَ تَفْحَصُ فِي مِثْبَرِهَا
And in a hadith: That they found the producing she-camel digging in her calving place.
وَقَالَ نَصِيرٌ: مِثْبَرُ النَّاقَةِ أَيْضًا حَيْثُ تُعْضَى وَتُنْحَرُ
And Naseer said: The camel's مثبر is also where it is made to kneel and is slaughtered.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ: أَنَّ أُمَّهُ وَلَدَتْهُ فِي الكَعْبَةِ وَأَنَّهُ حُمِلَ فِي نَطْعٍ وَأُخِذَ مَا تَحْتَ مِثْبَرِهَا فَغُسِلَ عِنْدَ حَوْضِ زَمْزَمَ
And in the hadith of Hakim bin Hizam: That his mother gave birth to him in the Kaaba, and he was carried in a hide, and what was beneath her مثبر (place of birth) was taken and washed at the Zamzam well.
And in the hadith of Mu'awiyah: That Abu Burdah said: I entered upon him when an ulcer afflicted him, and he said: Come here, my nephew, and look. He said: So I looked, and behold, it had burst open. And I said: There is no harm upon you, O Commander of the Faithful.
وَالثَّبْرَةُ: تُرَابٌ شَبِيهٌ بِالنُّورَةِ يَكُونُ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَيِ الأَرْضِ فإِذَا بَلَغَ عِرْقُ النَّخْلَةِ إِلَيْهِ وَقَفَ
And Al-Thabrah: is a soil similar to Nura, found between the layers of the earth, and when the palm tree's root reaches it, it stops.

And Al-Thabrah: is a depression in a mountain that holds water, in which it becomes clear like a cistern; when water enters it, its impurities are removed and it becomes clear; Abu Dhu'ayb said: And it poured into it the Thabarat of Al-Rassaf, ... until it removed the turbidity of the murkiness.
التَّهْذِيبُ: وَالثَّبْرَةُ النُّقْرَةُ فِي الشَّيْءِ وَالهَزْمَةُ؛ وَمِنْهُ قِيلَ لِلنُّقْرَةِ فِي الجَبَلِ يَكُونُ فِيهَا المَاءُ: ثَبْرَةٌ
Al-Tahdhib: And Al-Thabrah is a depression in a thing and a hollow; and from this, the depression in a mountain where water is found is called: Thabrah.
وَيُقَالُ: هُوَ عَلَى صَيْرِ أَمْرٍ وَثَبَارِ أَمْرٍ بِمَعْنًى وَاحِدٍ
And it is said: He is on the verge of a matter and on the brink of a matter, meaning the same thing.
وَقَوْلُ أَبِي ذُؤَيْبٍ: فَأَعْشَيْتُهُ، مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا رَاثَ عَشِيَّهُ، ... بِسَهْمٍ كَسِيرِ الثَّابِرِيَّةِ لَهُوقٌ
And the saying of Abu Dhu'ayb: So I blinded him, after his evening had become sluggish, ... with an arrow from the broken Al-Thabiriyyah, swift.
وَثَبِيرٌ: جَبَلٌ بِمَكَّةَ
And Thabir: is a mountain in Mecca.
And in the hadith, the mention of Thabir; Ibn Al-Athir said: And it is the well-known mountain near Mecca, and it is also the name of a water source in the lands of Muzaynah, which the Prophet, peace be upon him, granted to Shurays bin Damrah.

And Yathbirah: is the name of a land; Al-Rai said: Or a flock of wild pigeons from Fayhan, which was prevented from it, ... from the water of Yathbirah, the hunter and the scout.
