Al-Jawhari: The tanur in which one bakes.
He said to a man wearing a saffron-dyed garment: 'If your garment were in your family's tanur or under their cooking pot, it would have been better;'
He only meant that if you had spent its price on flour to bake or firewood to cook, it would have been better for you, as if he disliked the saffron-dyed garment.
And the tanur: is that in which one bakes; it is said: it is the same in all languages.
And Ahmad bin Yahya said: The tanur is a 'taf'ul' form from 'nar' (fire);
And this is corrupt to the extent you see it; it is only a root that has not been used except in this word with an addition, and its owner is a tanar.
And the tanur: is the surface of the earth, a Persian loanword Arabized, and it is said: it is in every language.
Until when Our command came and the tanur burst forth
Ali, may Allah honor his face, said: It is the surface of the earth, and every spring of water is a tanur.

Allah, the Almighty, informed that the time of their destruction was when the tanur burst forth,
It is said the tanur is the surface of the earth, and it is said: it means when water bursts forth from the direction of the Kufa mosque,

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas: The tanur is the one in Al-Jazira, which is Ain al-Ward, and Allah knows best what He intended.
Al-Layth said: The tanur is common in every language.
And the statement of whoever said that the tanur is common in every language indicates that the name is originally foreign, and the Arabs Arabized it, making it Arabic in the form of 'banar fa'ul'. The evidence for that is that the origin of its structure is 'tanar', he said: And we do not know it in the speech of the Arabs because it is neglected, and it is analogous to what entered the speech of the Arabs from the speech of the non-Arabs, such as 'dibaj', 'dinar', 'sundus', 'istabraq', and the like, and when the Arabs spoke them, they became Arabic.
And the tananir of the valley: its hollows;
So when his voice rose over Dhat al-Tananir, ... it revealed lightning with few flashes.
And it is said: Dhat al-Tananir here is a specific place;
And Dhat al-Tananir is a pass opposite Zubala, to the west of it.
