And his saying 'ta'ṭurūhu 'alā al-ḥaqq' means 'you make him incline towards it'.
وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عَطَفْتَهُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ، فَقَدْ أَطَرْتَهُ تَأَطَّرُهُ أَطْرًا
And everything you bend towards something, you have bent it, bending it.
وَعَايَنْتُ أَعْيُنَهَا تَامُورًا، ... يُطِيرُ عَنْ أَكْتَافِهَا القَتِيرَا
And I saw its eyes like a small hill, ... the dust flying from its shoulders.
وَإِذَا كَانَ حَالُ البِئْرِ سَهْلًا طُلَّ بِالشَّجَرِ لِئَلَّا يَنْهَدِمَ، فَهُوَ مَأْطُورٌ
And if the condition of the well is easy, it is shored up with timbers so that it does not collapse, then it is supported.
وَتَأَطَّرَ الرُّمْحُ: تَثَنَّى
And the spear became bent: it was curved.
فَأَطَرَّ اللهُ مِنْهُ أَي ثَنَاهُ وَقَصَّرَهُ وَنَقَصَ مِنْ طُولِهِ
So Allah bent him, meaning He curved him, shortened him, and reduced his height.
أَتَاهُ زِيَادُ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ فَأَطَرَهُ إِلَى الأَرْضِ أَي عَطَفَهُ
Ziyad bin 'Udayy came to him, and he bent him to the ground, meaning he made him incline.
وَأَطَرْتُ القَوْسَ آطِرُهَا أَطْرًا إِذَا حَنَيْتَهَا
And I bent the bow, I bent it, if you curve it.
وَالأَطَرَةُ: مَا أَحَاطَ بِالظُّفْرِ مِنَ اللَّحْمِ، والجَمْعُ أَطْرٌ وَإِطَارٌ
And the 'aṭrah: is the flesh that surrounds the nail, and the plural is 'aṭr and iṭār.
وَإِطَارُ الشَّفَةِ: مَا يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ شُعَيْرَاتِ الشَّارِبِ، وَهُمَا إِطَارَانِ
And the frame of the lip: is what separates it from the fine hairs of the mustache, and they are two frames.
وَقَالَ ابْنُ الأَثِيرِ: يَعْنِي حَرْفَ الشَّفَةِ الأَعْلَى الَّذِي يَحُولُ بَيْنَ مَنَابِتِ الشَّعَرِ وَالشَّفَةِ
And Ibn al-Athir said: He means the edge of the upper lip that separates the hair follicles from the lip.
وَالإِطَارُ: قُضْبَانُ الكَرْمِ تُلوى لِلتَّعْرِيشِ
And the frame: are the vine rods twisted for trellising.
وَالإِطَارُ: الحَلْقَةُ مِنَ النَّاسِ لإِحَاطَتِهِمْ بِمَا حَلَقُوا بِهِ
And the frame: is a ring of people for their surrounding of what they have encircled.
وَالأَطَرَةُ: طَرَفُ الأَبْهَرِ فِي رَأْسِ الحَجَبَةِ إِلَى مُنْتَهَى الخَاصِرَةِ، وَقِيلَ: هِيَ مِنْ فَرَسٍ طَرَفُ الأَبْهَرِ
And the 'aṭrah: is the edge of the aorta at the top of the shoulder blade to the end of the flank, and it is said: it is from a horse, the edge of the aorta.
وَقَوْلُهُ: كَأَنَّ عَرَاقِيبَ القَطَا أُطُرٌ لَهَا، ... حَدِيثُ نَوَاحِيهَا بِوَقْعٍ وَصُلْبٍ
And his saying: As if the joints of the sandgrouse were bent for them, ... the details of its sides with impact and firmness.
وَالأَطِيرُ: الذَّنَبُ، وَقِيلَ: هُوَ الكَلَامُ وَالشَّرُّ يَجِيءُ مِنْ بَعِيدٍ
And the 'aṭīr: is the tail, and it is said: it is speech and evil that comes from afar.
إِنَّ بَيْنَهُمْ لَآصِرَةَ رَحِمٍ وَآطِرَةَ رَحِمٍ وَعَوَاطِفَ رَحِمٍ بِمَعْنًى وَاحِدٍ
Indeed, between them is a bond of kinship, and another bond of kinship, and affections of kinship, all meaning one thing.
فَأَطَرْتُهَا بَيْنَ نِسَائِي أَي شَقَقْتُهَا وَقَسَمْتُهَا بَيْنَهُنَّ
So I divided it among my wives, meaning I split it and distributed it among them.
وَالأَطَرَةُ: أَنْ يُؤْخَذَ رَمَادٌ وَدَمٌ يُلَطَّخُ بِهِ كَسْرُ القِدْرِ وَيُصْلَحُ
And the 'aṭrah: is to take ash and blood and smear it on the crack of a pot and repair it.
