الفراء: ابدأ بهذا آثرا ما، وآثر ذي أثير، وأثير ذي أثير أي ابدأ به أول كل شيء.
Al-Farra': Start with this, preferring it; and 'aathir dhi atheer', and 'atheer dhi atheer' meaning start with it first of all things.
ويقال: افعله آثرا ما وأثرا ما أي إن كنت لا تفعل غيره فافعله، وقيل: افعله مؤثرا له على غيره، وما زائدة وهي لازمة لا يجوز حذفها، لأن معناه افعله آثرا مختارا له معنيا به، من قولك: آثرت أن أفعل كذا وكذا.
And it is said: Do it, even if it's the only thing you do, meaning if you don't do anything else, then do it, and it was said: Do it, preferring it over others, and 'ma' is extra and necessary, it cannot be omitted, because its meaning is 'do it, preferring it, choosing it, intending it', from your saying: 'I preferred to do such and such'.
ابن الأعرابي: افعل هذا آثرا ما وآثرا، بلا ما، ولقيته آثرا ما، وأثر ذات يدين وذي يدين وآثر ذي أثير أي أول كل شيء، ولقيته أول ذي أثير، وإثر ذي أثير؛
Ibn al-A'rabi: Do this, preferring it, and 'aathiran', without 'ma', and I met him first of all, and 'athar dhati yadayn wa dhi yadayn' and 'aathir dhi atheer' meaning first of all things, and I met him at the beginning of the time of dawn, and in the track of the time of dawn;
وقيل: الأثير الصبح، وذو أثير وقته؛ قال عروة بن الورد: فقالوا: ما تريد؟ فقلت: ألهو ... إلى الإصباح آثر ذي أثير

وحكى اللحياني: إثر ذي أثيرين وأثر ذي أثيرين وإثرة ما.
And Al-Lihyani narrated: 'ithr dhi atheerayn' and 'athar dhi atheerayn' and 'atharah ma.
المبرد في قولهم: خذ هذا آثرا ما، قال: كأنه يريد أن يأخذ منه واحدا وهو يسام على آخر فيقول: خذ هذا الواحد آثرا أي قد آثرتك به وما فيه حشو ثم سل آخر.
Al-Mubarrad on their saying: 'Take this, preferring it', he said: It is as if he wants to take one from it while it is being bid upon by another, so he says: 'Take this one, preferring it', meaning 'I have preferred it for you', and what is in it is filler, then take another.
وفي نوادر الأعراب: يقال أثر فلان بقول كذا وكذا وطبن وطبق ودبق ولفق وفطن، وذلك إذا أبصر الشيء وضري بمعرفته وحذقه.
And in the rare sayings of the Arabs: It is said that so-and-so perceived and understood such and such, and was skilled and adept, and that is when one perceives a thing and becomes skilled and knowledgeable in it.
والأثرة: الجدب والحال غير المرضية؛ قال الشاعر: إذا خاف من أيدي الحوادث أثرة، ... كفاه حمار، من غني، مقيد
And 'al-atharah': scarcity and an unfavorable condition; the poet said: When he feared scarcity from the hands of calamities, ... a donkey was enough for him, from Ghani, tethered.
ومنه قول النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم: إنكم ستلقون بعدي أثرة فاصبروا حتى تلقوني على الحوض.
And from this is the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: You will encounter hardship/favoritism after me, so be patient until you meet me at the Pool.
وأثر الفحل الناقة يأثرها أثرا: أكثر ضرابها.
And the stallion mounted the mare, 'ya'thuruhā', 'atharan': he mounted her frequently.
